Do chams need supplements

Read these, take notes. You are doing some things wrong, but we are here to help! :) Your chameleon will be happy in no time as long as you follow the advice you get from this forum.

You need to get her out of a glass aquarium and into a screen one.
You need to remove the soil from the bottom of the cage, it is better to use nothing. Or paper towel.
You need to buy some supplements for her. Calcium, Calcium + D3 (they are different), and multivitamin. Use the CALCIUM at most feedings, use the Calcium + D3 once a week to every ten days. Use the multivitamin twice a month.

To dust your insects with supplements, simply put the insects in a jar or a container or even a ziplock bag, put in a little bit of the supplement powder, shake them around, then put them in for your chameleon to eat.

You don't supplement less frequently because they make a lot on their own - they make some on their own but it is easy to overdose them if you also provide it too often and it can build up and cause toxicity issues. Just fyi.
 
Also, as long as she is in an aquarium, move her away from the window. She could be overheating.

Think of it this way.....heat has a hard time escaping a glass aquarium, so it acts like an oven, slowly cooking your chameleon, and lots of bacteria will breed in there and may create a lung infection.

With a SCREEN enclosure, the airflow allows the temperature to be more stable, and she can move around wherever she feels a comfortable temperature....think of it like you are outside in the heat, and come inside to an air conditioned house. Chameleons like to have a choice to be hot or not whenever they want.

Also a SCREEN enclosure will have enough oxygen going through it that bacteria wont build up.

UVB is the rays that the sun provides..this keeps the cham.healthy and enhances its color ad keeps it from getting mbd as well ... UVB IS EESENTIAL! THERE IS NO WAY U CAN HAVE THE CHAMELEON LIVING LIKE THAT FOR LONG,,PLEESE GO BUY A UVB LIGHT BULB AND KEEP THE HEAT LIGHT ON AS WELL..AND YES GET A MESH CAGE DUE TO THE TANK HOLDING WAY TOO MUCH HEAT..PLEASE DO THIS QUICKLY . IF U HAVE MORE QUESTIONS KEEP ASKING. as for the feeders (the insects ur cham eats) they need to be dusted with calcium ( put the crickets in a bag,pour some calcium in the bag ,shake the bag, make sure they are covered in the calcuim,take the insects out of the bag and give it to ur chameleon.:)
 
and also with the UVB light thts a tube like light so i have a reptile lamp with different reptile bulbs isnt tht the same thing to the reti-glo light?

let me be more speccific the bulbs i have are like a basking one aand a night time one
 
ok ty very much ill save more money buy a screen cage even tho my glass tank has a screen cover and ill remove the soil and buy calcium ty all for the suggestions!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the forums. This place will give you a ton of knowledge to keep your cham happy for a long time to come. To "Dust" the feeders means to take the food that you are offering your cham. Take a small cup put a very small amount of the above supplements and the feeders and shake them around the powder will adhere to the food and therefore be Dusted.

Secondly try to use various types of feeders. Crickets, Reptiworms, Silk Worms, Superworms...

also can u mix the certain supplements 2gether like lets say the one with d3 and the daily one?
 
Not really. But since you have many problems with your set up and since you have to re-do most of it then yes, it will probabley be expensive.
 
Petco will have some of what you will want to explore but the pricing isn't always the best. Go online and find the site with all that you need and compare prices. I find the LLL Reptiles is pretty fair priced.
