Does anyone else get made fun of?

Particularly by a significant other or family memeber for being "too concerned" over your chameleon. My wife makes fun of me on a constant basis when I say "I need to get this for Franklin" or "I need to do this for Franklin". How do I make her understand that he's just as important as our dogs and needs the same amount if not more care than they do? I've tried telling her but she just doesn't get it. He's just a lizard to her.

My friend of 20 odd years comes over regularly - he is constantly mocking me for 'mothering' my monitor lizard :D.
My brother also takes the piss on occasion, but he lives in Japan so he doesn't see as much.......... I think they understand that they take quite a bit of care, it's mostly just something to laugh at ........good job they don't know how much I think about them.......I advise mentioning it less to your wife if you can, unless you like it when she teases you :D

I'm not crazy about lizards in general, and would never think to own one, but chams are NOT just "lizards"! They are more like a cross between a monkey and a cat.
They are very unique in the lizard world. They dont flick a forked tongue, or slither along the ground with tail dragging.
They also are intelligent and have wonderfull, clever, funny, cunning behaviour and personalities.
Then, there are those expressive eyes, unlike anything in the animal world, and of course, the magnificent colors! all the colors of the rainbow, a living jewel.

So, yeah, what's to like about them LIZARDS!!

And no, no one makes fun of me, everyone already knows I'm half cracked :p

My girlfriend gets annoyed with the amount of time I spend with my Cham an so do I as I want to spent twice as much but apparently I have to spend time with her an my son so what can you do lol

I work construction and ish all the time about my "lizard" it gets kinda annoying but i just ignore it. I consider them just jealous cuz they dont have an amazing unique pet like i do.

Yes. I hear from a few people, my best friend, in particular! I'll text her cute pics of him and she just thinks I've lost it! Luckily, my husband is just as enamored by our cham as I am, so it's all good there. It's something I just don't think you can understand until you have one. They are amazing!

I Love my Cham no matter what anybody says!!!! And when he was an iktty bitty baby,,,I used to phone home at least twice a day to see how he was doing,,,,which brought up the jokes from my wife,,,,but now,,,hes a strong iron willed cranky as hell teenager,,,,,but,,,I Still Love Him!!!!

I've only had my dude for about 4 days, but im already obessing over him. My fiance whinnes alittle bit about the attention he's getting- but shes getting a bearded dragion next week so that she wont notice me checking up on Commah as much after she obesses over her own guy! haha. Clever trick? I think so!

Since I did "cpr" on Crayola after he fell in water, my coworkers call me the "chameleon whisperer." They can't believe I'd give "mouth to mouth" to a LIZARD!!! They say they wouldn't have tried to save him....he's just a lizard.

lol

My mom knows how much I love all my pets. However after getting my chams she asked me did you ever think you would be breeding all these bugs to feed your pets? (dubias and silks). I just laughed. What is really funny is if she sees a bug big enough for the chameleon to eat she will call me to come catch it. lol She cares too....

I have not owned a cham for very long, she is only my 2nd one, she is sick - but I had to cancel one of the last huge events of the year for my pottery studio this weekend - because she needs me to feed her bug juice every 2 hrs right now- but anyway, most ( the ones who know me) totally understood - the others - well, I feel bad they will never know such a wonderful bond with such a unique animal :D

the words "It's just a lizard" are not allowed to be spoken here- ;)

My sister just constantly calls my Monty "the lizard" and says he's "just a stupid lizard" my brother doesn't really care and my parents understand, but don't. They'll pay vet bills but get annoyed when I need to go take of him while we're doing something. I hope someday everyone understands they are smart, beautiful, captivating creatures and not "just a stupid lizard"

I thought I was the only one! My husband mocks me when I get something new for my chams, especially now that I am taking care of different types of insects to feed them.

He thinks they are 'cool,' but that's as far as it goes - and he thinks I am way too involved. I get made fun of often :)

My wife doesn't say much about the Chams, the reef tanks, and all the other critters...

I just tell her its either this or Hookers and cocaine......

I get crap all the time, from work, from school, friends, family.

Thankfully, my man is as in love as I am, He doesn't hold Kuzco tho, he is afraid he'll break him since he's so tiny!

I got a lot of crap with my last cham, Pascal, cuz I paid $800 in vet bills toward the end...

Everybody at work laughed when I said he was having surgery.

But after he died and I was all broken up about it they all felt bad and now they all love Kuzco and his silly antics :)

My husband doesn't care for my chams like I do but he also knows how having an interest in chameleons literally saved my life after I was involved in a couple car accidents within a 2 month period and had a miscarriage as a result. I was put on heavy painkillers to deal with pain, started drinking and had no interest in getting out of bed during the day. Along came my first veiled chameleon, Karma! How can one spend all day in bed drunk and stoned when one has someone that is relying on you for survival? I really do owe my life to my chameleon's and hubby knows that. Thats why he'll make me custom cages, take detours on the way home from work so he can buy me fresh feeders and he has the patience to listen when I'm facing a chameleon conundrum and most of all, he doesn't bitch when I buy new supplies, which lately seems to be all the time! He's happy that I'm happy - thats all he cares about. My kids on the other hand....they think I'm craaaaazy like a fox! :D
