Doji may be a reincarnated Mangrove Monitor!

Chameleon Enthusiast
Every so often I let Doji have some walkabout time. Every single time I do, he bee lines to one of my aquariums. I find it hilarious that he has zero inhibitions to water. He stalks the rim of the tank with his tongue barely poking out poised for the kill. I have told a couple of my fellow reptile enthusiast in my area about the fact that Doji will dunk his head below the surface of the water to view the fish.....needless to say, they thought I was pulling their legs. Well tonight I was finally able to get to my camera and take a picture of this. You can see in the last picture that I took the shot from the outside bottom of the tank looking up. Don't get me wrong, good sensibility points to the fact that he may be drinking. And even though the consensus is that chameleons will not drink from a body of water, I have seen it many times. With that being said, he is not drinking...he pokes his head under and then carries on moving about the rim trying to catch the fish. Strange....but just another example of why I love chameleons. You never know what their personalities are going to be like!!

That's really cool. So has he never shot his tongue out at a fish? I was just curious, since I have tried with three different chameleons on three different occasions in my studio with a bowl of goldfish and all three got to the point of sticking their tongues in and out, but none of them ever went for it. Of course, they obviously wouldn't be able to come back with one since they are wet and slimy.

He has made attempts from above the water hitting the glass lid, but never with his head under the surface if that's what you're asking. I think it's completely strange that he is so infatuated with them...I think it must be the constant movement that drives him crazy!!
