Dripping system

I was wondering how long I should leave my drip system going and about what time I should turn it on on off. I'm only asking because I came home today and there was water everywhere and I looked at the drip and it's empty.

I keep mine on a very slow drip from lights on to lights off. I use a little dripper and I only need to fill it once or twice a week. I found that the valve didn't give me good control over the drip so I bought a fish tank air valve and I run the dripper to the air valve and then use that to control the flow.

I use a Zoo Med Big Dripper that I fill everyday (1 gallon). It lasts the whole day, lights on till lights off. I also have a Monsoon mister that runs four times a day for 18 seconds and my cage floor remains dry. I drill 3 small holes in the bottom of my cages and keep a rubbermaid container underneath to catch the excess water (see picture). It's cheap easy and effective. Do you have some sort of drainage system?

Where did you get those shelving units?

Shelving units are good! They're nice looking as well. But for me I use television stands. I stop by my local hardware store and they have these black or white tv stands with gaps in between the bars. I just take them out the box, lay them down, and put the cage on top with a few holes and a container or bucket underneath to catch water. Hope this helped

Good idea using fishtank air valve to control little dripper. Ive just been out to buy one. Will let you know if its better than little dripper valve which i cant control.

I made my own drip system from a Klaussen Pickle container & an aquarium air valve. Just mess around with the valve till you get the flow you want. I have mine set to drip 1 per 1.5 minutes, thats about as far out as I wanted to go between drips. 3 days of running non stop and its about a .25 down.

The pickle container with pickles and air valve = 1/2 price of a big dipper, and I like pickles!

I got the shelves at Ikea, about $30. I knocked out a couple of the wood planks that the cages sit on so I have a clear path to the drainage tub and use the planks on top of the cage to rest my drippers on. I found that if you spin the valves a bunch on the Zoo Med Drippers they loosen up and then become easy to adjust the drip speed. I also bought some cheap aquarium air hose to attach to the dripper valves. Now I don't need to put the dripper right over the watering spot.

Wow you guys have the drip set very slow. And your chameleon has the patience to wait 1.5 minutes for a drop of water? Makes me wonder if I need to set mine for a drop a second.
It's probably fine as I see my chameleon drink from it daily.

Wooah? U only fill that once or twice a WEEK?? Woow lol i have the big dripper (1 gallon) and i have this dripping from lights on at seven oclock in the morning till around about an hour b4 lights off to let the cage dry up everyday i fill each morning as i use a gallon a day dripping, and its not pouring out its just a continuous drip! How slow must that dripper be? Lol

I have a mistking as well. Popeye likes to drink droplets from metal screen on top of viv. Dripper extra so that's where I have put dripper valve. Going a bit faster than one drop per 1.5 mins. Have wooden viv so have to have good control of how much water comes out.

Currently I use the cup with ice method but that A) is a PITA & B) it's empty when I get home from work. I just set-up my cage this past weekend so it's a temp measure until this weekend when I install my Mistking that I just got in the mail yesterday I'm going to also do the dripper with the aquarium air valve, I like that idea plus it will be a good back-up if (read: when) the power goes out.
