Eggbound?

Hello, I am new here and thank god I can post and not sure if it is too late. I have this chameleon since April from Petco and look like it a girl. Not sure if you can answer these questions or give me some advise, sadly Petco doesn't know everything about Veiled Chameleons like they should before the customers buy one.

Since I had her since April since she was little and doing well until one day, things were different. Last Friday, she began to be weaken, barely can pull her own weight. Havent potty in five days and haven't eaten in two days. She has gain some weight and wondering if this the sign of eggbound.

After reading some comments on this forum, give me an ideas if this is what she is going through. Unfort I couldn't find any potting soils for her that will be safe in my area due to Fertilizers. Only have this Zoo Med Eco Earth Loose Coconut Fiber Substrate...

Anyway I have this bin, use to be for live crickets when I buy 100-500 and put some Tupperware to save some spaces while sands on the very bottom and this soils on top. Soak it and plenty of heat, but not too hot. Hopefully she will do whatever she gotta do without being noticed.

So she still green and good eye contact, just that worry me if she has parasite infections. Unfort where I am doesn't have a single vet that will take care of veiled chameleons, even Petco should arrange one for me, but the manager or whoever this person is cant approved it, because the store manager is not around until Thursday. That really suck! I manage to track down that manager on facebook, but no reply.

This is the only things left out on Veiled Chameleons that happen to be females that need to lay eggs at some points, sadly it doesn't cover that information in the booklet and caught me off guard. Now I am pissed with Petco for this and not being helpful. They should know about these reptiles before selling them to customers.

I also have two baby basilisks as well, but never seen anything like this on veiled chameleons and I would be very upset to see her die because of this. By the way, her name is Mr.Magoo, at first though this was a boy and turned out a girlie and still love her. Would do anything in the world to help her.

Could you post some pictures of her? The recomended depth for a laying bin I believe is 6 to 8 inches, but the deeper is usually the better. What is your supplement schedule?

Well the latest picture is this...

She is pretty big girl, had her since April while so small.

Note this was a 6foot box I made, she didn't like it and wont eat. So put her back in small terra tank w/e that is called. Finally she went back to normal. Sunday I gave her some multi vitamins mixed with water by eye drop, so when she opened her mouth I put a few drops in. And today calcium, unfort she wont eat or drink. Just so weird. The tank she was in, use to have this soils I mention above, she had a bad habits eating it, had to take it out and put a green mats on the bottom.

She doesn't like being touch, she hissed and will bite if been bothered lol. But I fear that she wont make it for unknown reasons. Let me get a camera and take a shot and post it soon.

Is that the laying bin? In the picture her foot looks a little curvy which could be a sign of mbd. What have you tried feeding her? Sometimes they become bored with food which is why variety is key. I would try to feed silkworms. Could you post another picture of her and one of your setup? She looks a little plump but if you get a picture from above sometimes you can tell better

She is plump alright, mostly eat crickets and sometime mealworms. Never tried silkworms, none here carry them. Gotta understand, she hasn't poop in five days and I am concern about that. Her feet usually does that, sometimes she rub against herself and get confused with the claws against her body. Here a picture here, taken not long ago, cant even climb up there and kept falling off and usually going backward once in awhile.

So I had to take everything out of there included the big water bowl, so she wont fall in it. Getting cold or drown. She move around once in awhile, but not sure what is her problem is. Sadly there is no vet in my area, only Petco can provide it, but the manager is not around like should be.

I think you should fill out the how to ask for help form that is in the health clinic. Copy and paste it here and answer the questions. That will help us get the big picture of how to offer help. Also pictures of her entire enclosure are helpful.
She shouldn't have a water dish anyway, as long as you are misting correctly she is getting the water she needs. They don't recognize standing water as a source. Also, do you have smaller branches in her enclosure. That one she is on is so wide I can see why she would be having trouble holding on.

Water dish or bowl I had work well, she had been going down there to drink time to time, I made a dripper that drip from the top slowly into the bowl, usually hit the plant then into the bowl. What I am concern that she hardly move about a week ago and could ended up either eggbound or parasite infection in the gut. Don't think she is strong enough to climb atm, still trying to get a hold of that manager at Petco so they can send to the vet. Right now everyday been giving her eye drop of water mixed with a little calcium and once a week with multi vitamins. She just wont eat anything right now, not sure if I should get juice from a cricket and drop it in the mouth.

She been moving backward time to time, not sure what she is trying to do. At the meantime I see if I can find whatever you are talking about on the form.

She does look a little plump, it could be constipation. She needs to see a vet ASAP, I have to drive 6 hours to get to my vet. Looks like MBD also. When she develops eggs and is ready to lay, they sometimes can't when they have MBD. Good luck & keep us posted!

But I did find something that could help about the MBD, but the drop one is hard to come by than the power calcium. Just call the Petco Vet or help over the phone, they mention something about baby foods with some meats, I never heard anything like that before. She act like she doesn't want to eat at all atm. Since the vet is out of option, I am going to give her another drop of calcium (does have D3) powder mixed with some water in eye drop, but not too strong and some cricket juice and see if that will help or not.

Been feeding the crickets with potatoes and romaine hearts so they eat it and then later on the chameleon eat the crickets. She has been cutting back eating crickets over the past few weeks. When she was young, ate like crazy and grown at least three times the size right now.

Where are you located? I may be able to find a vet close to you

Upstate New York, in Clifton Park. I can walk all over the place, the fastest way is riding a bike. Depending on the weather and traffic. There are some on google that aren't accurate or false report. We checked with Benson's Pet and asked them, PetSmart and Petco. After meeting with the manager at Petco lastnight (finally) she said there nothing they can do about it. Only if I have bought that chameleon within 30 days then they will work with you, other than that, out of luck.

I have do everything by the book or booklet they I found at Petco, then ended up with this issues that I am not aware of. I told her about the situations, everyone included her told me need to take it to the Vet. But what Vet? There none nearby that will handle reptiles. So either they moved out or gone out of business. Too dangerous for me to walk or ride the bike next city due to traffic and the taxi here are way too expensive, plus you have to pay the Vet too.

Just have to do what I can here.

I would not feed baby food with meat because it would have too much protein and I believe some where I saw that if a cham gets too much protien somthing (I cant remember what) will happen. Maybe someone who knows or remembers will chime in on it

Yeah I wouldn't do that either, she still hanging in there. Been trying to talk these people I am living with. Not related, but they don't like get involved with their family (Italian) and there is someone can take me to the Vet either Albany or close by. Just pain to talk about it and they just don't want nothing to do with their family.

So I told them, then I go over myself. She know me, maybe or maybe not will take me there. Just not sure how much it will cost, getting a cab or taxi is like 130+ USD two way trips.

Well I manage to get a hold the main office of Petco and explaining the situations, they told me they can help you and shouldn't be a problem. Of course I would have to pay the Vet fees, etc. Dunno why they left that parts out and not mention to help, beside that is where I got it. Hopefully it is not too late and depending on what they are doing to her. I will have to wait and see what happen later on today.

Finally got some help here, the lady or manager at Petco live in Latham or Albany NY, so she work where I am located. She said if we can make appointment and get this done ASAP. The result was very sad, was told has broken bones and have no ideas how that could have happen. Probably during that fall with all that weight, sadly I had to give her up so hopefully they can take care of her and give it someone else. Don't think I can do it everyday taking care of that poor thing what it is going through. Just hope she will make it and wont be able to see her again

Were you dusting her food with calcium? If not she has MBD and that is why she has broken bones.

Only had the chameleon for a couple months, so not necessarily the case. MBD can take a while to show itself.

You couldnt find any dirt? Are you on earth? Lol. Go dig some in a field or a yard. You gotta have at least a foot of dirt. You gotta quit moving her around and changing things up. She isnt gonna lay anything if she feels insecure
