Electric Bill?!? What?!?

Holy:eek: I think I will keep my  on the east coast. LOL!!! Mine never goes past 200 and is usually around 90 to 130$ every month. They seem to charge whatever they like I guess:rolleyes:

Im not in the US Cain. I quite like alot of the US energy prices. Maybe we need a 'Nuke' power station or two here! :)

Hollllyyyy. Maybe you should invest in a solar panal, lol. It wouldn't be cost effective for you at first, but after a while it would help.

with bills like that, he would break even in 3 years or less

My bill for a 1200sqft house in Socal is round $220~ each month. I have 300g of reef systems, 3 different tanks, so that means more pumps than if it was just 1
Leopard Gecko Colony in 20g w.heat mat
1 Panther Cham w 100w infared running 24/7, 100w basking light, 25w UV

Wife is a Environmental lawyer so we run everything super efficient, front loading washers, surge strips on everything to avoid trickle charges, energy star everything, except our old kitchen (someday)

We plan to go solar at the end of this year, energy prices are always going up and as we calculate, breaking even in 7-8 years, unless CA gets their act together and starts PAYING people for extra energy created like most states do

Plan to power neighbors houses till that time comes

Haha $85 bucks for electric! I live in Florida and my electric bill is $1,600 a month. It's a 5,500SQ ft house though. I have 4 separate A/C units for the whole house.

So what does it look like for ya?

Here is mine since moving to this apt.

Meter Read Date / KWH Usage / Number of Days / Average Daily Usage / Charges this period

  • 08/14/2009 1141.00 30 38.03 $ 199.19

This is operating costs for 8 chams. I have 6 cages and two free range chams.

The 6 cages each have one 50W heat lamp. Four cages share two 48" dual T12 fixtures. This comes to 160W total (each tube is 40W x 4). The other two cages each have their own 18" 13W T8 fixtures. One free range uses a dual 48" T8 fixture with two 32W lamps. The second free range uses a dual 36" T12 fixture. I think those are 32W each. And collectively the two ranges have two 100W heat lamps and one 75W heat lamp.

6*50=300W
2*100=200W
1*75=75W
4*40=160W
2*13=26W
4*32=128W
Grand total:889W

This does not include the two fans I operate during the day or the A/C when it is used... but as you can see from the bill above, you know when the A/C was on LOL. Most of the time we just have all the windows open in the apt. and have one fan on in the cham room pulling air through... but when its warmer we run a large higher volume and higher velocity fan that pulls air through from the one end of the apt. to the other. This really helps give the chams the temp swing they need. Today it may have reached 82*F ambient in the cham room and tonight it'll drop down to the mid 60's. If we run the A/C during the day we keep it around 78*F and there isn't a real good night temp drop those days because we shut down the A/C at night when it cools down. We are just trying to save on running the A/C. I haven't jumped into reading my bill real carefully but I bet running the A/C all night wouldn't cost that much but every little bit helps .

With my misting/lighting controller I can have it shut down my heat lamps when the ambient hits 82*F (or any temp really....). I just haven't hooked it up yet. This would save quite a bit. My concern with this is that the lighting in the cage will change a lot.... I don't want the cages to look all weird with only a UVB lamp on. I was thinking I could hook up a dimmer and when the temp gets hot I just swap over to that lights get more dim...

OK rambling.... What kind of bills do you guys get?

What kills me is what they charged you in june and july but look at the differance between aug. and nov. it makes no sence.

I would LOVE a tiny electric bill!

Just wanted to update-my current "Budget Billing" monthly bill is $547! :(

Hahahahaha! You know, where I grew up in New Martinsville WV they have hydro electric plant. You could once walk across the Ohio River in some spots until they wanted to start promoting barge traffic on the river. They then built the hydro electric plant. http://www.newmartinsville.com/hydro.htm Anyway, the point is its nice to see some type of efforts to produce cleaner energy. I also see the blades for wind mills all the time going down I 81 where I think they are made somewhere in NY or at least up that territory:eek: However, all along the Ohio River there are a load of different types of plants. PPG, the ones that want to screw my mom over are dumping all kinds of  into the river. I guess if they want to save money so bad that they will outsource (different company in US) a 55 year old hard working womans job and make her shovel  until she retires to save a mere 900$ a year (doing away with two employees job) then they could care less about spending to save the rivers eco system. Its kind of funny how it works. Wow, that was a rant:rolleyes:

My electric bill for the past 3 months was:

$495
$750
$950

Thinking of ways to cut back on kilowat hours.

It has to do with how much you use at a certain time. There are dings for using more at a specific time than if you used the same at another time of the day. Using 100w at midnight costs less than 100w at peak usage hours. If I am not mistaken....
