I was looking to get a male panther chameleon that is about 4 to 5 months old, I have been looking at mutiple cages online but just went into petsmart and foumr this one, I was wondering if this would work and of so when should I switch him out into the full size cage. Thanks in advance.

Im sure that'll work fine, but I'd go for a bigger size. Wont be long before your cham outgrows that one if he hasn't done so already.

And ignore the easy substrate removal door. Substrate is a No-No

*Gotta love the box picture, one big chameleon in a small cage with one climbing stick and a small plant with substrate at the bottom. Terrible

I would purchase one online rather than in PetSmart/Petco. They are usually bigger for less money. LLLReptile has AWESOME customer service as well as cages

See that was my original plan is to just go with the permanent big cage but I was advised to get a smaller one at first for such a young guy, so im kinda confused on what to do.

I have looked on that website but all I could find are those pvc cages with a zipper netting around it, and I perfer an alumnium one, unless im missing something on the website.

There are reasons to get smaller cages, hunting food being one. But, if you are like most of the owners on the forum, you will gain a liking to cup feeding and wont have to worry about that. I'm sure a nasty fall is also on the mind of whoever mentioned a smaller cage as well, with plenty of climbing areas and no worry about sudden fright, you shouldn't have to worry about that. My guy is 5 months old and compared to what I see here, not so big at all. He is in a 4'x2'x31" climbing area. I cup feed him and give him a lot of branches and vines to climb on. You are better off buying big, especially at 5 months old, and I agree with CBPanther. LLLReptile is a great company to buy from, that is where I buy my Chameleon package from which included, chameleon, small cage, substrate (trashed), lights, fixtures, vines and foliage. I also do all my feeder crickets/roaches/and worm purchases from them.

There are a lot of sites mentioned in the forums that sale cages, bigger for cheaper...unless you absolutely need one right this minute, I'd hold off and search the web.

I just made a similar mistake SneakerHead....

Took my son to Petsmart and got all set up with an Exo-Terra in 18" x 18" x 24", Now that I finished assembling it sure looks mighty small. We want to set it up with real plants (The safe kind), and it already has a cascade with a mist fogger, but we want to make sure is all well established before we bring my son's veiled female from the breeder (She is about one month old today).

I love the easy substrate removal door, it makes it easy to introduce flying prey without them flying back out. They just fly up to the top where an unpleasant fate awaits. :D

LLL or DIY both have the large cage for cheaper than petsmart. Amazon also carries them in all sizes with free shipping/no tax.

any of these companys will get a cage to you in 3 days or less.

Save your money, get a bigger cage(cup feed until your guy is a little bigger)
2x2x4's are under 100.00 just to give you an idea.

Tiki Tiki Reptile also has great deals on linear bulbs as well. 16.00 for any size I think of the zoomed 5.0 linear

Now when you mention DIY, is that a website, or are you talking about do it you self cages? Also is a 2x2x4 big enough?

if the panther cham your going to get is 4-5 months you are going to need a 18-18-38 cage for now. my male panther is around 5 months now and he is big here is my pic of what a good and easy cage and set up should be for a panther that size then when he is close to a year and or that range then get him the
2-2-4 cage https://www.chameleonforums.com/2-new-set-ups-62400/
