EU to phase out non energy efficeint light bulbs

Thank you for reminding me about the upcoming bulb ban... I'm now pissed off even more than I've been! Hehe.

Yes, there are proposals I think, to have them banned by 2012. Ignorant stupid government as usual.

There are so many valid reasons to use an incandescent bulb over a CFL. Especially when the heat is needed. EZ bake ovens, incubators, etc...

Really, I don't know what I'm going to do. Reptile product manufacturers are going to absoltly LOVE this, as the only basking bulbs I'll be able to buy will be their overpriced, short-life, hard-to-find, "reptile bulbs"... which I abhor for their expense.

Pisses me off when government gets involved in things... prarie dogs... look what they did with prarie dogs as pets. Ignorance and overstepping of their bounds.

I don't hate people in government - just government.

generally speaking, Moving to an energy efficient bulb makes a lot of sense. It is the role of government to do these kinds of things. You dont like it, go into politics or vote for a different representative.

The US will follow the other countries (Australia, UK, Canada)
the problem will be when the limited resources used to make the CFLs become more scarce due to the initial spike in demand, and the lack of recycling (that people dont do it, not that it isnt possible)

So far, energy efficient hallogens are not being phased out in canada (some of the hot older inefficient hallogens are, but they're already pretty much gone).

"efficient" bulbs are, by definition, bulbs that put more energy into light instead of heat. Some of these posts refer to new efficient bulbs for herps. Though it is that there will probably be some curly fluor bulbs that may come out as substitutes, they would have to raise the energy needs to match the heat formerly provided by the "inefficient" tungsten bulbs. Neither of these are "green", just fit different needs better. If one wants heat then the tungsten element would be better. But, there are certain to be other bulbs and one would certainly be able to achieve the heat needed with anything but LED. It just may take some experimenting to determine which variety of the "mandated" bulbs to use to equal the heat of a 75W or 100W tungsten.

Not that it matters and is a bit off track for this forum, but I am with those of you that HATE the gov mandates. Drop them all!

Nah I think these are staying. Can get 2 for about £5 here and as other people use them on here i'm gonna try them when all my normal bulbs run out. Do you get the 75w ones to replace the 100w incandescent ones?
I use the 75W spot, 100W might be a little overboard depending on the cage and distance from basking spot.

Currently I use the 100w spot bulb but my basking spot is about 30cm from the bulb. DO you use the 75w standard bulb or 75 watt halogen?
