eurgh! Escaping bugs!

I use a cricket keeper, mine is larger than this, but the crickets crawl up the tubes and you just slide out the tube and shake them into the bag for dusting

I have one of those and it does minimalise my cricket stress but emptying the crickets into it from the tub they came in results in several escapees!

The sooner he's on a worm based diet the better! I have no problems with worms!

I think since getting reptiles I have gained several species of spider (daddy long legs and jumping spider, maybe a few others...) and some house geckos. :)

What kind of diet are you using? Mealworms? Waxworms? Silkworms? Just wondering. :)

Dubia are pretty amazing if your Cham will eat them. They are so incredibly lame as a roach! It's great! They can't climb, they don't run very fast, they look like giant Rollie pollies, they can't jump or fly, they don't bite, and they don't smell! Plus I only have to clean the tubs like once or twice a year.

Silkwormies, hornwormies, super worms, occasional mealworm, rare waxworm treat, Phoenix worms if they will eat them, etc. Are good. Mine really like flying/fluttering food as well. Especially butterflies, flies, moths, silkworm moths, large adult dubia when I hold them by a wing, dragonflies, etc. I'vre recently also began culturing snails, so I'll see how that goes.

I buy my crickets in bulk, I take the cage outside and put a hole just in the corner of the bag they came in. They all slide out into the cage eventually I just leave the bag slightly hanging with the top shut down I also have a piece of egg carton in there it gives them space to life without squishing each other

Yours come in a bag?! Woah. When I order bulk they always just come loose in the box (which sucks to try and get out by the way!) I like it when my food is contained in plastic tubs! I would have no problem paying extra if they came in nice tubs or bags!

Anywho, yeah! Just go outside so any escapes aren't in the house.

At the moment he's eating crickets and locusts, with 1 wax worm a day with his calcium stuff injected into (he's very very skinny!), and the rare mealworm.

I've ordered some hornworms and silkworms and am waiting for them to be delivered, and also waiting for some phoenix worms to come into stock - he struggles with the crickets and locusts cos they are so quick and he is so slow cos of his MBD and general crap condition. Plus he LOVES his wormies :D Am also going to hopefully try him with some roaches and woodlice!

Alright. Silks, horns, and phoenix worms are all find and dandy, but too much of them is not necessarily a good thing.

yeah, i want him to have a varied diet, but he really struggles to keep up with jumpy things :( gonna have to find an alternative until he gets stronger - it's like watching an arthritic old man try and hunt for his own dinner :(

Pull off the back legs of a cricket, and pull of an extra leg on one side. They just kinda wiggle around a little. :) easy to catch for him.

If you get dubia just flip them on their backs.

My veiled has a similar situation with his tongue, (he came to me that way). I hate to harm anything, but tonight I beared up and cut the legs off the crickets with fingernail clippers, they came off pretty easy. I made him a clear feeder dish awhile ago, and he really went after the crickets tonight. It was totally gross taking off the legs, but he is worth it!

Sounds like a job for my flatmate :D

Syn, how many critters do you have now??? Are the house geckos new??? Pretty soon you're going to have your own mini zoo..lol!! :p:):):)

Triton hand feeds. So what I do...which I know will get some interesting responses from members...Is buy 1,000 at a time..gut load them really well for a few days, freeze them, put them in freezer bags..they freeze up individually like peas. Then defrost 4-5 a day as needed. Been working well for almost two years and my guy is really happy and healthy. No smell, mess, chirping or escapees :)

i would GREATLY suggest getting a "kricket keeper." they are practically impossible to escape from. i used to have crickets escape all the time until i got the k.k.

they come in 3 different sizes, small, medium, and large.

LOL! The house geckos are from outside that manage to find their way inside to eat the escapees. I do not keep the spiders on purpose! :D

As for how many critters I own, a lot.

Luckily most are cresteds, though, and my cricket bill isn't too bad.

Kritter keepers won't cut it when you buy 1000 crickets at a time. Tall tubs work best for more feeders and to cut down nastiness and smell.

Hahaha!!! It's like you're running a little refugee hotel for the homeless..LOL! They just seem to keep moving in :p At least you have something to eat the escapee crix and spiders :D:):p
