How do you like it?

that compact flourcent has got to go ! ! I almost killed my veild with one of those, they are crap, and possibly deadly. it gave my veild extreamly bad uv burns. As for the bungie cords. . . . . no dis-respect but it looks cheesy. I bet a ferrit would enjoy the cage though.

Sorry i dont like it.

Do you see how close your cham is to burning itself on those bulbs, no bueno!
(you can see his head behind the little light cage thing.)

If you wanted an honest opinion.

No way he can burn. The temp is around 34°C which is temp for bask. Ambient is 28°C.

@Jeremy: I really don't agree. He likes all those sticks to climb on. And is more active during day. Before he wasn't. And he wasn't hidding from the light but from me. He is almost always near light.

Now he has his tail curled what indicates that he feel happy in his cage. And if he is happy so do I.

Greets!

he can still burn if he touches the bulbs!

You could have done this a little nicer is what jeremy is saying, you could have used fake vines, or sticks. btw, the bungee cords do look kinda cheesy

See if you could get some vining plants like pothos to train along those bungee cords because they really do foul up the look.

1.) He can't touch them because of his big crown. Don't worry about that.
2.) These sticks always stay still and do not move. I had real sticks before but they are moving and he doesn't feel stable on them. I couldn't get thicker ones.

Bungee cords is replacement for that brown rope before. They can be unleashed immediately so I can replace trees with no problem..blabla..:)

I can get fake vines but than it would be too full of everything in terrarium.
For now it's OK for me and my animal.

if you would add some fake vines and some more foliage and dump those bungies you and he would be better off, and it would not be too full.

as far as the burning of your cham he dosent have to touch the compact bulb to get a uv burn. you dont have to touch the sun to get a sun burn. did you know that ? those bulbs are not right for your cham, all in all. if you are going to take the time to update your cage do it right. hang a live pothos from the top and put a scheffelera or your ficus on the bottom and inter-twine the leaves and vines. go out in your yard and collect dead branches and clean them and put them in there. it makes it a little more difficult to clean, but it also makes for a happier cham. !

Everyone has made some good points. You could even keep the bungee and place the plants so they could bend around (Using pothos, umbrella). I personally think the bungee is a creative solution to providing climbing space but may catch his nails. Just keep an eye out and remove it if it becomes a problem. It just needs to be tweaked a little. More sticks and plants should be added. Even if you keep the bungee. You Cham will be a lot happier with more hiding spaces.

also your Chameleon would be a lot safer if you move the lights external to the cage and change to a tube UV bulb. Reptisun 5.0. From the looks of it you are very handy and could make the modification fairly easy.

Your Cham appears happy now but you will be back here asking what is wrong with his eyes next if you keep that compact florescent UV bulb.

I would recommend following everyones advise. It is in the best interest of the Chameleon you are taking care of.

Here in my country people don't think that compact bulb does damage to their eyes... well, not many people keep chameleon in a house because here live only 2 000 000 people in country :(

I know that about compact bulbs, but I don't have any tools and any experience of making & building something etc...(I wasn't modificating the terrarium).. But I don't think that these bulbs are so awful. They are not all like these which do burns. There are many manufacters and they make them for reptiles like chams. My cham is using them since birth and he is over 1 year old and no problems with his eyes. He just comes to them to bask and then he moves more up where he sticks to the heat lamp because he feels warm.

I promise I will keep an eye on his nails to not get stuck on bungee rope.

I am really biting my lip here.....

Compact fourecent bulbs DO put out levels of UV that are too intense for the eyes of captive animals. A year isn't a very long time, and just because you don't see any damage to the eye yet does not mean that the bulb is safe. The ill effects of these bulbs is seen a lot over here where the pet trade is fairly large and pet stores can make a lot of money pedaling these kinds of harmfull products to unsuspecting begginers. We see herps blinded by these lights all the time over here.

We are not lying to you... I am not just typing this for my health... We are not trying to make your job harder... We are not working for any kind of lighting manufacture... and it is not because we like the way one looks over another...We are trying to help you keep your Cham healthy. We wouldn't just make this crap up.

Do what you wish... But you have been warned several times on this thread alone that what you are doing is not the optimal set up for your cham and can cause serious health problems. In reality the Cham has no choice, and can't tell you which one he likes and which one hurts his eyes... It is up to you to do the research for him. We provided you with the info... It is up to you what you want to do.

EDIT:

Not only is that bulbs rays to intense for the cham... But you ARE allowing your cham to get WAY to close to them, whether he can actually touch them at all or not, The fact that he can get so close to those bulbs is really dangerous, and makes the Com Flou bulb problem even that much more serious.

ya those compact florescent UV bulb are bad for your cham. i would recommend just going to walmart and buying those Fluorescent light fixture than go to petsmart and get ZooMed Reptisun 5.0 UVB Fluorescent Bulbs. it also last about a year and it is alot better for your cham. hope that helped

I will see what can I do. I can get repti-glo tube light. Is that one good? I just need to figure out how to put here in.

Bye and without resentment.

Of Course no resentment... We are just trying to help... :)

I am not sure if they ship international but...www.lllreptile.com has great deals on Reptisun 5.0 Tube lighting...

Looking at your setup I would recommend cutting a large opening in the top...Closing it with screen, so that you could rest the lighting on top.

yeah its never a good idea to have the bulbs inside that cage. youd be better off if you cut the top out of the cage and replaced it with screen. buy two domes and stick the lights on top.

No problem. I have a friend that does things like that. I will ask him if he can put the UVB tube in cage somehow. I will see if he is going to put it in the cage and put the mesh around or cut the wood and put the mesh on and with lights.
Bye :)

Darko;
Everybody here is not trying to be mean; we just do not want to see your cham hurt. I have been reading this forums for awhile now and see so many people with post about the cham going blind or damaging their eyes and getting burns from these light. It hurts me everytime that I read about an animal being hurt or in pain. I don't want any of those things to happen to your little guy. Also I read and see pictures where chams have gotton their nails stuck in rope and so for and pulled out their nails and it becomes infected. Please take the advise of the menbers so that your guy can have a long and happy life. Jann

Also, you said his tail is curled which means hes happy? I've never heard that before I thought it ment they was anoyed with something.
