Ew... Superworms

I went to petco today and saw that they had superworms. Since I'm a new Cham owner I've never seen one before. So I opened up the cup and omg they are so ugly!! And they smelled terrible. Yuck. And they were big. If I decide to feed these things to my Cham how old does he need to be? And is there any special way to feed them?

Superworms is more for adult chameleons. But you can probably find small ones that are good for juveniles. You can either hand feed him or put it in his feeding cup.

My Tobias really really likes them... a little too much. I fear he will go on a hunger strike so I limit them to several a week.

Tobias is not that big; he will take about 4-6 bites for the superworm to go down (each bite with a nice 'crunch')

My worms dont smell bad.. and they have been in the same small deli cup with dirt and food for a week.

Yeah I'd wait. There was a recent choking death I heard about involving a hornworm being fed at 4 months, so just be careful with feeding! Use the "never wider then the space between there eyes" rule.

I Completely agree with That rule, I wouldnt feed anything larger then the spacing between the eyes.

I've had to "rescue" a few animals who bit off more then they could swallow and its a scary situation. Try to keep it to things of a more appropriate size. Assuming that your chameleon is young. More importantly we need to know the species!

Either way, Young and Old, Species to Species, Use common sense. if something doesnt seem right or you have to think twice about it, dont do it. At the very least get a second, experienced opinion on it.

I buy small super worms and feed them to my 4 month old. They seem to work fine and he does not have trouble eating them.
