Exo Terra Monsoon RS400 Rainfall Sys

I'm a fairly new owner and have a lot of random questions. I did realize owning Chameleons (2) isn't the same as owning a snake or a lizard-- I knew it was going to be somewhat costly and sometime time consuming but I find them fascinating and take good care of them.

I have a question about the new rainfall system I got. I'ts been 2 months since I started my Chamleon hobby journey and I'm still setting things up the right way.

My water fountain broke due to dirt escaping in and I've been spraying my Chams with spray bottle but the Veiled hates it-- the Panther likes it-- the veiled doesn't like being sprayed on-- but he needs it, he looks very dry and i spray the live plants to he can hydrate himself plus when he sheds i do more than that. I was spraying in the morning before work and after work but sometimes i did forget a few times.

I ended up getting this system. They both love it. As soon as the spraying starts they both go under the water and kind of shower-- idk why they didnt' do that when I bottle sprayed-- maybe the water fall system is more natural but it also makes a Kurig coffee machine loud sound.

My Real question is:
What do I set this to? it has Duration and Interval in Cycle mode. I have it on every hour spray for 4 seconds. I don't want their enclosure to smell like a swamp.

What is the suggested setting? I want them well hydrated but not so wet that it starts to smell and bacteria stats to grow or have any mushrooms growing in there.

My jackson requires lots of water, more than say the average panther or veiled,my mist king runs at 7a,12p,430p,and 730p for 5 minutes a piece. I also will just turn it on when I get home from work and let it run 15 minutes straight everyday (I just haven't programmed it to do this yet cause I was lazy lol)
With that said I have a good drainage system but to help I put a desk fan that oscillates on a timer,it runs 15 minutes every hour to help dry the plants and cage out some about a half hour after the misting system goes off

You really should give them less intervals at more time at each, thst way they are enticed to drink more from the rainfall simulation. And to allow adequate drying between sessions.

I agree that you should mist for longer periods fewer times a day. Unfortunately the monsoon system is a piece of crap. I had one for less than a year and had to have it replaced twice. The electronics are not waterproof and so after a few months it became unreliable. It often turned itself on and just ran until the reservoir was dry! Hopefully you will have better luck. A few keepers on here have had the system for a long time with no trouble but by far the majority have had issues. The product does have a good guarantee and they are more than willing to send replacements no question asked but it gets old really fast. My recommendation is to start saving some $$ to invest in a mist king.

I bought a monsoon also. I basically took it out of the box and tried it out on my kitchen counter first. It was soooo noisy and just seemed really cheap for the money so I took it apart and back into the box it went and I sent it back the very next day. Now I'm going to get a Mist King. Hopefully that is better.

Mist king is really awesome, super quiet and just awesome. My jacksons chameleon loves it.

As far as the price difference between the monsoon and a mist king starter system it's not very much honestly when you look at both of their track records.

Yes, I absolutely agree. I'm going to get one prob by next week. I'm going away for 5 days in September and I need to water two cages while I'm away so hopefully it will do the trick. Currently my femal chameleon is already in a screen enclosure with a little dripper. But my male Panther free ranges full time in my dining room so hopefully he won't freak out when he is in a cage for a few days but at least I know he'll be well hydrated.

Absolutely. I absolutely think it's made keeping my chameleon way easier and less time doing maintenance and just enjoying him, plus it's awesome to watch the down pour in the enclosure. He will come out and bask in it to soak it up,always has a little grin on his face.

I love it when the smile! I could always tell when my Jacksons was happy :)

How do you plan on feeding them while you're gone for 5 days? Leaving fruits and veggies?

That's a good question because I'm kinda worried about leaving them!!'Unfortunately I don't think my panthers will eat fruits and veggies but it would be easier if they did Lol! I think I'm going to set up a couple of small bins with lots of extra crickets and super worms in both cages (I have a 1000 crix coming on Monday) and hopefully I'll be able to get someone to check on the chams a couple of times to make sure their mist king is running and there's enough crickets.
I'm mostly worried about keeping them hydrated. Chams can go a few days without food but not without water.
If you or anyone else on the forums has some advice about caring for chams while on vacation please feel free to share any help would be appreciated :)
