Eye issue with simba again :(

Well hello there all. Been a while!

Little Lucas is just over 7months now n taking up all of my time! Thriving bless him n I couldn't be happier.

I am worried about simba tho. For those of u who aren't aware, he had an eye issue a while back which seemed to be due to debris from vines as when I removed them (alongside antibiotic drops) his eyes were fine. They were swollen like balloons! They miraculously seemed to heal themselves when I took him to vets however so had to take pics in so vet didn't think I was bonkers!

Anyway, have recently noticed flair up again :( only this time he's also off balance on his vines and when he shoots food his aim is off :(

I'm going to take him to vet next week but just wondered if anyone has had this issue with all these symptoms or any idea what it could be?

Will try n post pics now as using my phone
TIA :)

Poor Simba. I'm glad to hear you are taking him to the vets. How old is he now? It's nice to see you back on here and know that all is well with you. The very best to you and to Simba with his vet visit. Keep us posted.

Sorry to hear about Lucas, he looks so sad :(

I don't have any experience with eye problems so I can't help but I wish you guys the best of luck Hope he recovers just as quickly as the first time!

Managed to get simba to the reptile vet today :)

she seems to think he might have a blockage in his tear ducts n something to do with relation to vit a. She's read some papers on. Feel so guilty as with looking after Lucas I'd become lax with giving him the vit a drop on 2 feeders a month! He still gets repashy and calcium only but she said it's worth doing the vit a drops again. Need to order some worms!!! So we have antibacterial drops for now. Need to get inflammation down and drops will treat any infection if there is any n hopefully the blockage will come out. Otherwise he'll need to be sedated and the blockage removed manually (thank god for insurance!) poor lil man! :(

I just wanted to ask if it could be allergy related? If you have allergies you can relate to what I am saying, the puffy eyes with the crusties. You can even feel kind of puffy all over. have you added anything new, or has he been outside? When was it this happened last time spring or fall. New cleaner to clean his cage or area around his cage where fumes could get to him?? just thinking.... You might try a humidifier like you would use with a child. Sort of looks like a case of pink eye which can be caused by allergies. just thinking what you could do before having to have them removed.. that would scare me to death with mine.

Hi

It's a possibility I suppose, among other things. Vet even said it can be caused by parasites too.

Based on his symptoms though, this is the treatment she has suggested.

Nothing new in cage. No new cleaners, fumes etc. he's been in that cage in the same location for ages. Not been outside in a while as not that warm in the uk unfortunately :(

I have decided to change his live plants as they're a bit worse for wear from the locusts, but not sure whether to go for live again or fake as fake is easier to clean! He has a mistking already and humidity levels are fine :)

Im hoping it won't come to sedation but if that's what needs to happen to put my boy right then I'll have to do it :(

Fingers crossed the eye drops help!!

Just thought I'd post some pics of Simba from today.

His eyes are looking better than yesterday (not up like balloons!) but still so saggy!! Please excuse poop in pics but I thought it'd be useful to have it in them so u can advise if it looks ok. I'm going to get him some worms as the urate bit is a bit orange looking to me at the end and I know he gets plenty of water!!! I should also add there seems to be sperm plug with it!! Ewwww!! What better way to get more moisture in him than with a nice juicy fat fruit grub or giant butter worm :)

Noticed a bit of debris on his left eye but I don't know if its skin that has come off or if its something that has been in his eye.

Looks so sorry for himself!! Plus I'm having to hand feed him to make sure hes getting fedbas when he's shooting his aim is way off!!! He also seems to be off balance when he's moving around occasionally and when he captures his feeders and is swallowing them he looks like he might lose his balance and fall!!!

I have to say he's being so good at letting me handle him to administer the drops!!! I'm giving him a bug reward after each dose so he doesn't hate me!! (Needs them twice a day!!)

Have a feeling he wont be as impressed when I gut his enclosure and change his live plants for fake!!

So ungrateful!! lol

I think it'll be easier to clean with just fake in. Will keep an eye on humidity after change but I think it'll be fine :)

Will keep u posted over the next few days if I can. Hoping he'll be ok!

Aw Kat i am sorry to hear simba is poorly again. I will keep my fingers crossed. I still need my daily Lucas pictures, so don't forget me.:) I love that boy to bits.

Awww bless u Laurie! Lol

Yeah he's coming on great. I'll try n get some pics put on another thread for you of Lucas ;) x

Update on Simba.

Eyes are looking a lot better but still going to put drops in for a couple more days.

Have emailed pics to the vet to see how long she recommends I put the drops in for.

Also ordered some fruit grubs and giant butterworms and am about to go searching for an artificial ficus tree :)

Thanks Laurie.

My vet has also said she'll copy me some of the material she has from text books at home with ref to these types of issues.

Thought it'd be an interesting read :)

I don't see why not. Will let u know if she sends anything over. Yeah hope he's on the road to recovery!

Can't wait for fake ficus to get here!

Not that simba will appreciate it! Lol

Vet replied to say shes happy with how his eyes are looking and to keep giving him the drops till Friday (so he's had a weeks course) She said to keep the drops tho in case they flare up ever again.

She's also sorting me some copies of pages from her books at home re this issue. I'm picking them up on Thurs so will let you know if they're any good :)
