Eye pouches???

Have any of you ever seen this pouch on both eyes issue in a Veiled chameleon before? I took him to a reptile vet and he said he didn't think it was an eye infection and he has seen this previously in a couple of other veiled chameleons and he removed the lumps surgically. We tried eye antibiotic ointment just to give it a shot but no improvement. I originally thought it may be eye irritation from his ficus tree it probably 6 weeks ago. He is 9 to 10 months old and is in great condition otherwise. Thanks for any input you may have.

i have never seen anything like that ever. it is crazy. btw, on the 1st pic, he has some fat pads on his casque, so i would shorten his diet.

Actually this is not totally uncommon in Veileds. Sometimes they will actually get that look before a shed. Makes them look like they have "elephant-eyes".

It does not affect his normal daily routine. He is fine in every other way!

Chamman - Where do you mean on the casque? I actually was thinking he is a bit thin. Maybe I am wrong.

The eye pouches basically stay like that all the time. Does not seem to change due to shedding.

Here are a couple of photos that you can see his body in better. Does he look thin or overweight? Thanks for you replies!

Since he was about 3 to 4 months old. He is about 9 or 10 months now. I don't think he looks overweight either. As I mentioned before - I thought he could use a little bit of weight!

I would recommend you keep misting. Perhaps he is just a little dehydrated and his eyes are a bit sunken in. Does he roll his eyes when you mist him? He is a great looking vieled and you probably don't have to be worried.

He actually gets to chill outside under a mister 2 to three days a week. He loves it! He also gets misted daily in his enclosure.

My male has the same thing but only in one eye. Its been that way about 5 months and my vet had no idea either. It doesn't bother him at all so I have just watched it. Sorry I don't have an answer but you aren't alone.

Very interesting. Thanks for posting those articles. Very strange that these eye pouches have been seen by a few cham owners. Sure is a mystery - would be nice to figure it out!

hey snook, my friend in peoria, her vieled has this as well, but not to that extreme, its very light in his eyes so to speak.
