Eye Problem?

Hey Guys, I have an about 10 month old Panther Chameleon who has recently developed a problem. His Left Eye is always closed. I see no signs of Swelling or anything and I am just wondering about what problem this can be. I would like to see what I can do first, but if I have no choice I guess I will take him to the vet. And his left eye seems fine. Thanks!

He is actually 13 month old. The chameleon is outside all the time now. He eats every three days or so now, so I give him calcium twice a month and vitamins once a month. He will not eat anything but suppers, so I force feed him dubia. I gutload the dubia with cricket crack. Misting 2 min, 8 times a day from 9am to 5pm.

I took the picture at 7:30pm during writing this post. He was not sleeping yet, just getting ready. At the time his right eye was wide open The eye seems to clear and I do not see any swelling.

Just wondering if I can use any drops as precautionary measure.

i use plain old saline solution to rinse out my guys eye when there are any minor issues.

I have large scheffleras type plants. The do not secrete any sap. I do have a regular Ficus, but I had that ficus for a at least 9 month. That Ficus was with the cham in the smaller cage during the winter month and there was no problems with the eye then.

i use a plain no name saline with no additives and just drip it righ into their eye for afew drop or untill im sure some has gone is.
shower are also very helpfull for the eyes..

i had the same problem with my panther too. my chameleon stopped eating and became blind after that.

my friend also has a panther chameleon which is also closing one eye all the time. i think its because we didn't mist his cage enough.....we did it only 2-3 times a day which is not even close to being enough.....

Judging off of your current gutload, supplements and schedule...im going with supplements as your problem.

Furcifers may or may not absorb Beta Carotenes (Natural provitamin A) as efficiently as they would Preformed Vitamin A sources. The difference? Beta Carotene doesn't not build up to excessive (& Dangerous) amounts, whereas Preformed VitA can. So, it would be wise to also experiment with supplementing with a source like Reptivite.

A word from the wise. if you decide to use superworms you better get on a good gutload regiment. i would suggest you getting him off of them ASAP. they are a good snack feeder and a horrible staple. you will end up with a panther that is not eatting..mark my words.

I use Minerall red cap. I would love to get him off the superworms. Tell me how to do it if he will not eat anything else. Should I do not feed him for a week?

what kind of lighting is indoors. be specific.

This is a dusting schedule that most on here suggest:
-Calcium (NO Vitamin D3, NO Phosphorous) Every feeding
-Calcium with Vitamin D3 (NO Phosphorous) Twice a month
-Multi-Vitamin Supplement (With Beta Carotene for a Vitamin A) Twice a month. (If you notice eye issues that are linked to Vit A and are using a product with proformed VitA. Use the product Reptivite that has Preformed VitA.)

I am using the following:

Herptivite Multivitamins two times a months. That is approximately every five feedings. It has Beta Carotene 440mg.

and

Minerall once a month.

I do not use Calcium with D3 because the cham is out side all the time now as posted in my previous reply.

I am not understanding something here. I am using Herptivite right now, which has Beta Carotene. I should use it twice a month and if the eye problem does not go away switch to Reptivite.
