Chameleon Info:
  • Your Chameleon - Blue bar Ambilobe, Not sure sex, Around 2 months is all LLL said (not sure here either), about 15 hours.
  • Handling - 2 secs to get him out of the cup and into the cage.
  • Feeding - Crickets and Mealworms, atm more feeders soon. Carrots for the crickets although I got them with the cham. I have seen him eat 1 cricket about an hour ago afaik thats the first time and only.
  • Supplements - Calcium dusted the crickets, I have cal with D3 and Reptivite with D3, figured each 2x monthly.
  • Watering - Spray bottle for now, I have been watering him alot. When he first arrived he ran to the water with his mouth open then licked the leaves like crazy. So I have been spraying alot, he runs from the bottle now and doesn't lick the leaves as much.
  • Fecal Description - Dark brown, kinda dry looking, and orange spots. Sticking to its tail area hasn't fallen yet.
  • History - I ordered him a bit ago. When I aksed LLL to ship him they were out and waiting for new. He got delayed on his way to them, then they shipped him to me. So he was in a box for awhile, I am guessing 3 days or so. (They likely took him out and watered him before shipping to me, but ya bunch of box time).

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - Screen sides, screen top, plexiglass back/bottom. 1 side is covered by a plastic sheet, the door also gets covered at night with the plastic as it blocks light in the cage. 17in x 17in x 32in
  • Lighting - 60w incandescent for basking, in a 5.5inch reflective dome. Reptiglo 5.0 in a 8inch dome
  • Temperature - basking 81f, bottom 71f, Zoomed thermometers. lowest temp 67f (last night/this morning)
  • Humidity - Nothing yet, have to get a guage, I spray alot there is water on the leaves all day I let them dry up for lights off.
  • Plants - Ficus
  • Placement - On top of a dresser, in the bedroom low traffic. top of the cage is about 6 feet high, bottom about 3ish(a little more maybe like 40 inches)
  • Location - White Mountains, Arizona. Not like the rest of AZ it is foresty here lots of pine trees and high humidity during the winter (its still winter here kind of, gets to about 30 the last few nights)
Current Problem - he/she keeps closing there Eye, seems like always the left eye. He does it on and off, closes it for a bit opens it for a bit closes it again rolls it around ect. I have tried turning off the UV light for like 30 mins he still did it. Its poop (its still pooping I think), is kinda stick to him/her, and is dark kinda dry looking with some orange spots.

I assumed he was dehydrated from being in the box's so long so I have misted a lot.
At first he was standing in the mist with his mouth open. Then he stuck is tongue out and rolled it down the watery leaves so he/she was thirsty, but doesn't seem to be doing that anymore, I am still misting alot JIC.

Edit: Included a pic of him closing his eye. Also next to a zoomed thermometer so you can get a age idea as I dont know? In that instance however it was open I sprayed him to get some water in his eye to help get particles out if thats the issue, he promptly shut his eye.

Ours does weird things with his eyes when he's about to shed. That might be the issue. If he's dehydrated, try to get a dropper going in there and not just mist. Ours will drink straight from a squirt bottle on the stream setting. Also make sure you have a new (6 month max life) UVB bulb.

Well the cage doesn't have much room for a dripper honestly on the top. Though I am going to try to rig something up. The UV bulb is brand new, I used it for 2-3 days before him getting here just to get the temps set up right ect.

He wasnt before but now he seems to be rubbing his eyes, yes both of them now, on a stick. The symptoms point to a Vitamin A deficiency but he is really young is that possible?

It was though to setup around the lighting lol. But I got a dripper going, homeade but drips in the cage 1 drop per secondish maybe a tad faster. It actually drips right on to the highest branch (which is waterproofed) and then runs down the side and drips down to leaves then into the plant, the branch spreads the drips out a bit under it as well, it drips from a few areas over about a 2 inch span.

Okay so he seems to be closing his eyes a lot less now. I didn't see him do it at all last night before lights off, then today during lights on. He seems more hydrated he ate a cricket, and no closing eyes.
