Fake Tree

Hey guys! I was wondering if you could give me some advice.

I have a fake tree that I've been using as a free range for a while now. Loki absolutely adores it. He is upgrading to a larger cage, and I've considered using the tree. It would fill up 3/4 of his cage, and is the perfect size. It's extremely sturdy, the leaves are plain silk, no weird residues, and doesn't have anything sharp that could harm him.

Now.. one of my concerns is the "tree trunk". The outside of the trunk seems to be made out of a thin layer of styrofoam for aesthetics. I'm not sure how well it would hold up with water. It would most likely retain some water to a degree. Is there anything I could do to prevent any future issues with this?

The other concern has to do with the base. It doesn't seem like it would be able to drain any water. There's about an inch where the water could build up. The only solution that came straight to my mind was to drape a trash bag around the vase. It would be water resistant, but would probably look a bit tacky. Any suggestions would be wonderful.

Depending on the material/paint used, the water getting into it is likely not a big deal. But if you're concerned enough about it, you could try buying some water proof spray. This would cause the water to roll off of it and collect it in the pot.

Anything like silicone to coat it would defeat the purpose of its natural/look texture which is why I didn't suggest that.

I would also suggest to drill a hole or two in the bottom of the pot, because if you don't let the fake plant drain, it may still be able to harbor mold and other bacteria, regardless of roots or no roots.

Why don't you just re pot the tree in a drainable pot.it would be easier than drilling the vase and likely shattering it
