Im picking her up some Baytril from the vet tomorow and I just started her on reptaid...
Hopefully those will help...
I feel like im talking to myself on here.... :(

HELP!!!! please....

The vet gave my baytril to try to contain this infection, but i am on the third day of reptaid right now and it seems to be helping. Reptaids website says infections should show signs of improvement after 2-3 daays and clear it all up in 5-10 days of treatment. The website also says that you shouldn't administer reptaid at the same time as any drug. So should I keep up with the reptaid or switch to the baytril?

Ok...well since no one else has ideas...was she still getting better with the reptaid before switching to the Baytril? If she was still improving I would keep her on the reptaid and wait on the Baytril. Baytril is really hard on your cham. It can make them really dehydrated and makes them not want to eat. If you have to use it you have to, but it makes me nervous on a cham that has already not been eating.

To administer any meds usually requires forcing the mouth open unless you're a very very patient person and know your chameleon will immediately eat an injected dubia(feeder). So when you force the mouth open, you have an opportunity to rehydrate at the same time. Especially with baytril, I've seen chameleons just SHUT DOWN. Baytril has again and again dehydrated my chameleons until I started shooting water into the mouth with the Baytril. OPEN MOUTH= OPEN OPPORTUNITY. With the extra water, the cham will take longer to swallow but just be patient and you can even use a dropper to drop tiny drops into their mouth as they are swallowing (providing your cham doesn't try to run away.)

Anyways, just my two cents. I try to use gentler meds (like Reptaid) when I can but sometimes you just have to go to the strong stuff (like Baytril.)

On her right side there is a brown mark on her lip in some of the photos...does she have mouth rot? The photos weren't clear so its hard to tell.

I thought that the Reptaid was helping at first but it seems like it was just the initial boost or in my head or something. she was the same. so i stopped the reptaid at treatment number 7 and the next day started baytril. I do use a syringe to inject the baytril once ive gotten her mouth open. and i am also putting 1-2 syringes full of water/a little fresh orange juice when i administer the baytril. she had her eyes open most of yesterday, but they looked lie they were bothering her still because she was trying to clean them still. then i put some water/saline dropps in her eyes. she was more active than ussuall too it seemed. we will se once the treatment shows itself. I beleive she would have already died if i wasnt making her eat at least a cricket everyother day and keeping her hydrated all the time. Judah can't loose his girlfriend!!! :(

plus she was born on 4/20 so it would be very hard to replace this little girl.

I hope she makes it..

Thanks for the responses by the way. I did take them into consideration. I would have continued the reptaid if i was using it at the begining of this but im afraid it is too late and she needed something strong and she needed it quick. now just to keep her hydrated

i will get a picture of the inside of her mouth. if it is mouth rot, would that be part of whats going on? and every once in a while, when i look in to her cage, she shakes her head just like my male does when he wants to mate. what does this mean? why is she head bobbing?

I am sure you are doing great with the administering water via syringe but be very careful to go really slow because chams can aspirate the liquid very easily! There was a recent thread on the board where someone killed there cham that way. I have usually only given about twice as much water as meds while on baytril for reference.

ok. i am trying not to give to much. do you think if i squirt it further into her mouth that will help her not breath it? of course being careful not to jam it down her throat. or should i just squirt it in from the front of her mouth?

Don't squirt it, just let it dribble out of the syringe. Remember that if she gets dehydrated she might go down hill but if she aspirates she IS dead. This is one of those things where a little bit is good and a lot is not better ;) Also if she is actively hissing etc I wouldn't put the water in her mouth. The medicine is a viscous solution that they have to actively swallow but the water can very easily run down the wrong pipe. I am really not trying to scare you I just don't want you to have a bad outcome because you are trying to hydrate and do what's best for her. And like I said if you are giving her .05cc of meds really .15cc if water is sufficient.

You said..."if it is mouth rot, would that be part of whats going on?"...if the mouth is sore the chameleon would be reluctant to eat IMHO. Sometimes infections in that area can also be in the area of the sinuses and affect the eyes....but you need a vet to tell you for sure.

Do u know why she's bobbing her head? And my vet, who knows wat mothrot is mind you, has looked in her mouth a couple times. He didn't seem to think it was. But I will take a look

today was her last day of Baytril. She has showed a little progress as one eye is open most of the time now (it is still bothering her though) and her other eye berely ever opens still. When she tries to clean them, the one bad eye gets puffed out and has a red thing infront of her eyeball. What should i do now that the baytril is over? Would her mouth be yellow or have black spots if its mouth rot? because her mouth is just barely yellow. my other Amobiles mouth is yellower actualy. but he is a big helthy boy.
