Sorry for your loss Max. Maybe when your feeling strong enough you can let us know what happened so we may prevent it from happening to us! He was a gorgeous boy!

I am so sorry for your loss. I can't even imagine what you're going through, losing a Cham is like losing a friend. Fenix will be dearly dearly missed.
I'm sure he will be waiting with Chazam on the rainbow bridge.

Thank y'all for the kind words. I think that I'm going to retire Fenix's cage. It is still sitting next to Walker's cage and I still turn the lights on every morning as to not forget the great and beautiful boy that he was.

I was thinking the same thing. When others share their stories we all learn from them. Again I'm sorry for what you are going through.

There's really nothing to learn from this other than freak accidents happen.

We were walking through the warehouse like we always do and something spooked him. Spooked him so much that he literally back-flipped off of my hand and hit the concrete floor head first.

It all happened so fast, but it was like I was watching in slow motion and I couldn't react in time to catch him. I was walking forward and he flipped backwards.

When I went to pick him up he was already gone. Died on impact. I was mortified.

I guess if there is a lesson to be learned, don't take anything for granted. We had made this walk countless of times without issue. He was always so chill.
 
Max hope things are getting back to normal for you, always hard no matter how you lose the but even more so with freak accidents. I kno wi already said this but sorry for your loss!!

Oh Mike, I am so sorry. We just cant anticipate what can happen to our babies. I try to read up as much as I can to find more ways to protect them, but in the end our chameleon babies are very fragile. I even decided against putting up basking lights above the free range after reading about Picasso and his tongue burn. We read and learn and research. We try to do the best we can, and at the same time give them some freedom and enrichment, but in the end we do not have control. I am so sorry, I wish I could do more. Please txt or call me if you need anything.
 
The outpouring of support from you guys and dolls is just so incredible. Thanks again, everyone! It definitely is easier knowing that y'all are here.

Wow, this forum is ever better than I thought. I know how you feel Max - I have lost a chameleon too when he jumped out of a window the crazy little beast. I wish I could have had something like to help just a little bit with feeling guilty. He was so chill and hadnt done it since he was a baby and he had the window open sometimes because he liked to sit there and look and he got sunshine. Accidents can happen anytime.

its just impossible to completely protect them, freak accidents do happen, in spite of all of our precautions and preplaning. we just have to step up our game as "parents" and TRY to out think them.... ;)
 
I don't usually visit the 'In memoriam' threads because they upset me so much and I always end up crying! Someone mentioned Fenix's passing in another thread and I just couldn't believe it!! I was teasing you about your boys playing on your truck (again) not long ago...he was such a stunningly handsome Cham!! I am shocked and extremely saddened by his sudden passing. I can bet that you are beating yourself up over the details surrounding his loss but you have to know there is nothing that could have indicated his backward flop and the subsequent results. Fenix's was SO loved, not just by you but by this entire community. Please know that I am mourning his loss like he was my own. Stay strong and keep your memories of him in your heart - where he now resides forever.
