I was told that sambavas take some time to get their vibrant colors. I guess that being patient is going to pay off. After 15 month he is starting to get his colors. Check him out.

I am still waiting, my guy is about a year now but gets some pretty crazy reds-yellows and oranges when he is really calm.

He looks real nice

What color are they before they "color up" ? Why do they take longer than other panthers to get their colors?

Clifford I don't know why they take so long. He has always had very nice greens, turquoises and at night yellows. I never could get him to fire up, Im guessing a female would do it.

Morpheon, my Sambava looked really similar but some times he was black. Not to get of subject, but I really like your vine set up the climbing accessories cords. Do you climb?

He is getting some beautiful colors! I am trying to decide whether to get an ambilobe or a sambava as my first cham, and your guy is swaying me over to sambava! :)

Haha! This is an interesting link you made! I did indeed do some very serious climbing a few years ago. However, with University i had to cut on a few passions! And my climbing career stopped there! ;) And if you wondered, i do use climbing ropes for my Sambava in his free range room! And no, i won't use these ropes anymore for climbing! Safety first ;)

About Ambilobes versus Sambavas, i never had any Ambilobes, but what i can tell you about Sambavas is they are slower to grow and to color up than most Pardalis. However, they are definately worth it. Sambavas are also one of the biggest subspecies of Pardalis. So if you are in a hurry, go for Ambilobes! ;) And if you like to take your time and enjoy your life, you might want a Sambava! ;)

mine is 8 months old and has some color here and there. Mostly green with some red, and the blue side stripe. I have heard it is true about the coloring taking time, but yes, it is worth the wait it looks like! He is beautiful!
