Finding Senegal chameleons

Just out of curiosity, why is it a Senegal that you've decided on?
There are many other types of chameleons available in the UK, trying to import one from the USA and dealing with customs can be extremely costly (hundreds of dollars) and risky in the safety of the animal.
I'm assuming this will be your first chameleon?

You will pay much more $ upon import than you would just getting a little larger of a chameleon. If you are looking for smaller breeds, I am sure you could find some carpets or something along those lines. My jackson is pretty small compared with my panthers and veileds. I too think it will be too much stress to ship a WC individual to the UK.

Wild chams come with a load of issues - it is not unusual here to see monthly new keepers that get a wild cham for one reason or another and end up losing the animal. I'm not trying to discourage you - just be aware of that possibility.

With a wild caught cham, you are going to need to have a reserve of vet funds for initial visits and treatments and several follow ups over the first year. I bring this up because it may be very difficult for you to get a captive bred/born/hatched (CB) Senegal whereas they are much more available as wild caught (WC).

There are a number of smaller chams that might be easier for you to get a healthy CB. Have you looked into carpet chameleons? They are so beautiful, sweet tempered, and calm. They would be the size you like and it sounds like you could get one in the UK. Jackson's are another option - very active but smaller in size - we have a few members here with Jacksons in the UK. You might even check out Graceful Chameleons - they are closer to Senegals in shape and color, again sweet tempered and shy.

Trust me, no matter type you end up getting, chameleons have so much personality and character - such interesting and quirky little creatures! You will fall madly in love. :D

Hmm.. perfect size for keeping a pet in a small space then? Most chameleons don't need a huge space (about 61 cm wide for a veiled or panther adult) as long as the cage is tall (92 cm).
Have you measured out the space where you plan to keep your future chameleon?

I know someone just hatched some in Germany. Have you tried calling Julian? He might be able to locate one for you.

Can you get a smaller version of veiled chameleons

Not really. If you want a small chameleon that is easy to take care of, full of personality, and has great coloring, I would get a carpet. They are awesome. How much space do you have?

How much do carpet Chams usually cost

And would it matter if I wasent home from 8am - 3:30pm most of the time

You'll want to invest in an automatic misting system and install a drainage system since you won't be home during such a large chunk of time.
Something like an Exo-terra monsoon rainfall system , or MistKing, or AquaZamp are all available in the UK I believe.

These systems can cost about $130 USD for a basic setup (77.89 GBP? Not sure of where in the UK you are, but google can help calculate it for you.) It's pricey but ESSENTIAL if you want a happy, healthy chameleon.

I was thinking Carpet for her last night also. But she seemed set on a Senegal, so I didn't mention it. CarlC brought up a good name, with julian. I have heard this name before. Not sure where, maybe from him. But I know from dealing with Carl already, if he says he's sending you something, then he is. Ask and see. In the main time, remain patient, collecting things you will need. Make yourself several checklists, and work through them. When your day arrives, you can enjoy your new friend, rather than running aroung town buying this and that. Did we determine that a Rudis Chameleon was out of the question or not, I don't remember?

Who's Julian?
And how much would a carpet Cham cost in £

I don't know Julian, I would check your PM's. In the US, captive bred carpets run about 105 GBP. I am not in the UK, so you would have to check with dealers there to find out for sure.
