First Post & Is this a good cham?

Well I am willing to wait bc I am about to get my first job (I'm 15) this summer so I will be able to pay for everything. I am all in and honestly I'm glad I've got till September to save and buy everything my little guy will need!

Well that's good. When I was 15 I got a green iguana that somehow was the nicest reptile I ever owned. I thought they all were and had YouTube been around 25 years ago I never would have considered one. Panther Chameleon is a good choice just not a cheap one. Honestly no reptile that needs heat and good UVB is cheap if setup correctly.

That's a good answers even though I don't think you would have a problem with #2 being local. There is definitely less risk moving early incubation when they get shipped just like with chicken eggs. You can ship them before they really start to incubate. This is also the reason why I bought 4 eggs and also why I have been leaving the last to hatch chameleon in the container. After 18 hours I removed them regardless. Right after they hatch they don't move much anyway. After I removed the last one since there was a day in-between I am moving the container to check on them which I think is simulating the communication. Somebody said leave the open eggs in the container because they could contain pheromones. Not sure how much truth their is to that but unless they mold I won't remove them.

It does seem like they care for what it's worth. You just need to decide if you want to wait that long!! You never know their clutch may not hatch either. Saving $100 and talking them down would be the least of my worries though. I laugh when people buy a $35 bearded dragon at Petco and need to spend $400 on a good setup. I always tell people in the store if I happen to strike up a conversation bearded dragons come in way more amazing colors and you don't want to chance an unhealthy animal. All beardies are captive breed at this point though and not the giant parasite risk like other things that are still imported or farm raised. If you are going to spend $400 on a setup to do it right why spend $35 on the lizard since it's a long commitment. The cooler something looks the more likely it will keep you interested and engaged.
And I agree about the whole bearded dragon thing. Here's my thing with big name breeders, its still a cham and yet they want $200 or more just because of a "pedigree". Don't get me wrong, I hate pet stores having live animals and I know where they come from :(.

Wow thats awesome, and I'm really lucky to have the whole internet at my finger tips! (And believe me, I research everything XD)

you should start setting up it's enclosure so for the next few months you can practice your misting schedule and make sure it's cage is good before you get it!

I made the mistake of getting a chameleon before getting a job and uh that wasn't a good idea because my one chameleon turned into 33 chameleons in five days....
chameleons are so expensive and high maintenance but their so fun to have

I am already looking at cages, but I cant seem to find any 2'x4'! I've checked pet stores, amazon, etc but they are all out! All I can find is a 18x18x36. I've heard this is the bare minimum. Could I use that until I can either find a bigger one or my cham grows out of it?

Did you check DIY Cages? The bare minimum is 2’ x 2’ x 4’ tall for males (preferably the minimum for females, too). If you can afford it, look at DragonStrand. Building one is also an option, depending how it’s built, could be the cheapest!

But bigger is always better for cages!

How do I build one? Any links?

i recommend getting one big cage that your cham will grow into instead of getting a small one but thats up to you, i got my 2x2x4 cage for 40 bucks on facebook marketplace

I bought a 2x2x4 Reptibreeze XL screen cage on Friday locally. I don't think you will be able to build a cage cheaper than a Reptibreeze XL and if you can I can't see it being worth the effort if you are just looking for something that works and doesn't look like 2x4s with hardware cloth. Hardware cloth isn't cheap either. In my opinion the Reptibreeze looks better than 2x4s with hardware cloth also and can be easily taken apart for storage and takes up no room when disassembled. Now if you are looking for something nicer I'm sure you can build something but in my opinion I would own a premade Reptibreeze or equivalent before building one. After owning a chameleon you will have more of an opinion on how you want to customize your cage for the fixtures and things you have including controlling humidity for your house. Also if you make a mistake you could injure the Chameleon.

I don't know if you are in the US but Petco has them right now. I see Amazon is out.

DIY Cages is having a sale right now! A majority of people prefer them over Zoo Med. This is the bare minimum size, though. Unfortunately tons of keepers only use this size since it is the biggest commercially-made size for a relatively small amount of money. Dragon Strand‘s biggest size is 4’ x 2’ x 4’ tall, but can be inked with more to expand it. They are around 5x the price of Zoo Meds and DIY Cages, though.
