I found a cute ambilobe female at the pet store in town, it is so tempting to buy her but the store wants $300.00 for her and I don't know how long she has been housed in that little aquarium thing they have her in, which has a waterfall in it:eek:
she looks pretty healthy but they wouldn't let me hold her, so the whole thing is just seeming sketchy
I feel bad for the poor girl :(

I understand you feel bad for her, but if she has problems, you buy her & take her home, how much worse would you feel watching her die? That is often what happens when suckers like you and I give in when we know we shouldn't. Long term you made to right decision, from my point of view.

Its really hard to walk away from this situation , but aside from you getting stuck with a problematic cham , the pet store , now has an empty cage to fill with another poor unsuspecting chameleon and the whole cycle begins all over again.

Just because its in a pet store doesnt necessarily mean anything is wrong with her. Not all pet store chameleons are instantly to be labelled junk. I wouldnt allow just anyone to handle chameleons in my care either. If they think you are really serious about buying her, and explain that you want to test her grip strength as the reason for touching her, maybe they will let you?

I could not agree more with Laurie.

while I agree that not ALL petstores sell bad chameleons, the simple fact is that MOST have no idea how to care for it and even if it came from a GREAT breeder, the potential problems that petstores cause (inc death) make it not worth the time.

if you wana buy a reptile today, it's best to buy from a good breeder or a reliable petstore like LLLReptile.

That is exactly right. If we break down and buy these poor chameleons we see in the pet stores they will just replace it and abuse another chameleon. A lot of times they come home from pet stores and die weeks later.
