Fruit flies or gnat issue

Hey Gang,

First off I wanna start by saying thank you to everyone who has given me advice on here. Lucy has come from being a very dark grey all the time and running from me as soon as I open her door to eating supers from my hand. Shes still not overly happy to come out of her cage but its leaps and bounds from where we started and patience is paying off.

Now to my concern today...lol I've noticed in my cham cage fruit flies or gnat flies. Last weekend I took my entire enclosure and cleaned it top to bottom, washed all fake plants and vines and cleaned up the hibiscus plant/pot etc... I've read they can come from moisture in the soil of the plant. My question is can I put a small cup of vinegar or wine with saran wrap in the bottom of my cage as a trap as you normally would. I just wanna make sure the strong stench of the vinegar wont bother my Veiled. There isnt many but there are some, and wanna use the best tricks possible to eliminate the issue.

Any tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated.

One way I have combated them is to get some sticky fly ribbon and get a desk lamp. I have a small fluorescent two bulb lamp and put the strip between the two bulbs.
I have the lamp about 4 feet away on my desk and it has trapped a lot of flies. It wouldn't get all of them put I got more this way than with the cup method.

Another thing you could try is getting a mantis ooth and sticking it in the cage. It can take a while for them to hatch so it isn't a quick fix, but it's certainly a natural way to cut down on the flies/gnats since the mantis nymphs will eat them, and then your chameleon will love catching the nymphs.

If you have fungus gnats, they are breeding in wet potting soil. The best way to get rid of the current infestation is to re-pot the plants and throw the old soil away...its full of eggs.

If they are fruit flies they should be attracted to a chunk of fruit...maybe this will help determine which you have.

The best way to deal with Gnats is to give them Neem Cake. Let them Eat CAKE! Actually just sprinkle some Neem cake on the top of you plant soil and when you water mix a tea spoon into on quart of water let it sit for an hour then shake and water. After a few days no mo gnats. you can pick up a bag of neem cake fo $15 online. There is NO better faster way to rid your plants of Fungus gnats. If the gnats get to your drains just drop a cup of bleach and hot water down for a few days.
