Gary's new shower enclosure!!!!

This morning Gary has officially moved to his new shower enclosure which is about 80% done. About a minute after he got in there he turned bright colors, and has now settled to a nice shade of green. I thought he was going to turn dark due to a new place....but if colors can tell if a cham is stressed...he seems great! In his old place (glass aquarium) he was ALWAYS dark except for sleeping. Im so excited to see the way it turned out, and that he likes it!

Finally took some pictures of his new enclosure. Remember....this encloser is not finished....there is a lot of bare spots which will be filled in with hanging fake plants on the walls, and will be adding 2 pothos, 2 cabella's, 1 picture plant (maybe 2), 1 ficus....and I would like some input on some colorful flowers that I might add that would be chameleon safe! So if anyone has any idea's on some flowers...lemme know!

Nice lookin cage, but do you have any live plants in there?

Yes, there is only 1 cabella plant that moved with Gary. You can see it in a black pot in the picture of the whole enclosure. As I mentioned above....there are 6 or 7 live plants that I plan on adding soon.

Cool! He's gonna love it when it's finished! So do you use the plug hole as the drainage system? Interesting idea!

hybiscus flowers are safe.

I used silicone to apply coco bedding to the sides (trust me, the only thing that works is 100% silicone!!!!). I am utilizing the shower's drain/plumbing for a drainage system, and the hot water line for a misting system that will soon be built.

how did you stick the coconut husk..... if its not easy to take in and out to replace you are going to have to watch for mold... and gnats, works great for humidity tho.... i was going to use until some one brought that up..

seee, here is the deal with mold right.


mold requires stagnant air to grow. as long as you keep a small "breeze" going mold spores can't settle to grow.

So because of the adaquite ventalation that a cham needs, mold shouldnt be a problem right? I can see how it can be a problem in a glass aquarium. Besides, I mainly mist the plants and such....and maybe a bit of the coco bedding, but within an hour or so, the coco bedding is dry!

i know its stupid but i am certified in mold remidation so i was trained quiet a bit by people who remove mold from housing.

as long as you don't see anything within the week, you should be OK. chances of mold growing will be fairly low.

more problems with mildew and odd enzymes that thrive in high moisture/air flow.


just keep an eye on things and odor.

Sure thing....I was about to say....as many enclosures that I have seen on this website, I have never ran across anything that has mentioned the growth of mold. Im not concerned at all, but since I like to watch Gary for hours at a time, I will certainly be able to tell if there is an odd odor or see any sort of mold growth.

If you get bored just watching Gary I have a number of chams who would love a home that size!! I bet you would enjoy some of my guys also! But alsa they aren't allowed away from Mommy! Great enclosure.

lol, I doubt that I will get bored of Gary, as I am facinated by nature. Hell, when I used to be a trucker, there would be times I would sit on a mountain in Colorado, or Arizona, etc....and just watch tree's, birds, snakes, and if I was lucky, even a bear or wolf. I dunno why...but I guess I am just obsessed with....Life. All creatures are truely amazing, and even species of the same are very unique to one another. If this shower enclosure does well....I think I may clear out my garage (which is currently being converted to another room) into a reptile room, and build several large enclosures. I've always felt that when you have a creature (whatever it may be) to try to imitate it's natural setting as much as possible, and give it as much room as possible. Im certainly going to get a few more veileds, but will also be getting panther's....along with a frilled dragon. Once I have the room, I will be more than happy to buy more happy 'lil specimens off of this great website!

Just to update.....Today, I bought a 3' Ficus tree, and a Pothos plant.

I was wondering about the ficus though, there 4 or 5 stalks coming out of it's pot...can those be seperated into individual tree's or is it just 1 tree and must remain together??

That is a really cool enclosure, cant wait to see more pics! I have cocoa peat in my veilds enclosure and it has never had mold.
