Well we are inheriting a bearded dragon from a friend of mine. I might have to take a break from chameleon forums and spend time researching our new boy spike. He will be coming to us this weekend. :D

And....drum roll.....Here he is! Meet Spike.

We just got him today so we haven't set up his new home. First task to change his substrate out as we wont be using sand. I think we have decided on alfalfa pellets instead for safety.

I wouldn't recommend any substrate. Jared and I use reptile carpet bc they tend to lick/taste things. :)

He's adorable!!!

Oooooo so cool!!! Good call on getting rid of that sand. The forum beardeddragon.org is a really awesome one. I'm on there and it's a great community.
Congrats, I know you will enjoy him!

Thank you for all of the tips. I have never kept a beardie before so we are still learning. Today he ate some cactus, a blackberry and a roach. I think he is settling in just fine.

Going to start working on spikes tank this weekend. Its supposed to rain so might not get to work on the chameleon outdoor cages. But spike will be stoked, making a custom background, a cave, ramps, dig box, new tile floor, the works! Also ordered an Arcadia light for him. Hopefully he will show his appreciation by eating! Haha.

Spike is the reptile version of a puppy. Beardies are playful and you can sit and hold them for ever. I had a dragon that watched tv sitting on my lap. He even kept the dogs off me.

He does look very good and if ever there was a good lap lizard beardies are it, you will find he will be a cake walk to care for after keeping chams!

You know, all these years of keeping lizards and other 'herps'.....and I still never had a Beardie........until joining this forum I never particularly wanted one....but everyone seems to really love them! :) I guess their 'personality' really is unusual for a reptile........
That and they were marketed so well......
It looks like I'm keeping myself as more of a 'Lounge Lizard' at the moment......so hopefully we'll see some more pics of him as he grows up.....congrats! :D

You aren't kidding, look at this boy, he does think he is a dog.

my beardie loves watching TV! Mental! :D

Spike looks lovely! Gonraz again!

I don't use any substrate. I put big tiles in, and it works great. When he poops - i just take the tile out and wash it.

Uhm how does his poo smell haha? :D Rocky's is revolting

We are doing tile in the new tank we are working on. We will also have a dig box with alfalfa pellets under the basking platform. I haven't really smelled the poo yet, thankfully. In the past week he has only pooped in the bath and I quickly drained it. I feel really bad for him because he has had that substrate in his eyes and I had to wash it out. He is still closing one eye, but I think it might just be scratched.
