Goodbye to crickets for now =)

Well in a wonderful bout of serendipity, my crickets ran out on the same day as the reptile expo. I got 500 dubia nymphs from JohnnyD and I got about 80 mixed lobsters from another guy. I came home and set up places for each, vasolined and excetra. I have to say im one of the people who thinks roaches are cool. I've never gotten to handle them before but i admire thier strength. It was crazy but in the first like 30 min 4 lobsters molted on top of the egg cartons and i just sat and watched. Overall this was a totally cool experience, dubias will be on the menu for now and when the lobsters start to blow up I can start using those. I need a good way to isolate small nymphs though, any idea?:D

Ah, reptile show in stl today too... It's like 90% Ball Pythons, 8% Bearded Dragons and 2% other.

There were 3 Adult panther's which were not for sale... It was the first time I saw a Nosy By in person, and it really might have swayed my mind from something unique to panther Chameleon for next cham... Photos just don't do them justice... That blue is so intense!

also some veileds that looked like a couple weeks old. Major bummer, I wanted cool chams!

It did rekindle my desire to own a snake though. A ball python would be cool, and of course require like no work! And luckily I'm not into snakes enough to care about all the expensive morphs... not to say that they don't look cool.

Anyway, back on subject: I'm still trying to convince my GF to allow roaches... easy to breed and much less stinky than crickets... and no jumping!

dont be a door mat, explaint he money to her, but her something with what you have spare ya know? yeah that was basically how it was here, i wish it woulda been more lizards of all kinds, there werent like tegus, there was like 10 chams. But i did like getting the feeders there and next time I will probably get pacman frog. Im not much of a snake person, but there were some cool milsnakes and cornsnake. I dont know anything about them though you know? Like why do people not do milksnakes so much? I think they look sweet. and one kind had exacttt OSU colors

op: i dont know of any special tricks to separate nymphs. they are hard as #$%@ to get out of the egg crates... unless you remove all the adults off the crate and then shake the remaining nymphs in the feeding container or bag.

haha most shows are like that anymore. snakes, crested's, leo's and beardies. its pretty sad but i talk to many vendors and they say that chameleons are a hard sale unless they are 30-40 bucks.

Haha, I am totally a door mat! But I'm totally cool w that. I think a lot more guys are than will admit.

Snakes, yeah, I like lizards and especially chams more... Chams are my favorite animals in the world, but I do like the tranquillity of most snakes. They are usually just so docile and chill. I love the colors of milks and kings (ESP the ones that have coral snake patterns), but I like that the ball pythons are both big and small at the same time (fat but short).

I will get there with the roaches, it will just take time. Let's just hope the chams like them when I finally get the GF to acquiesce.

well ya its a hard sell and i wouldnt even wanna sell them to most people, just wouldnt trust most people with them. what is op? Old post? Its not like that was why i was posting this i was just sharing a story. I know someone will be upset with em when i say this but i reallyyyy dont like leo's, something about thier skin and the way thier tails bulge, it grosses me out in an intence way. I really like beardeds though, im not like alot of pets at one time person, but maybe in a few years i will get aa pair.

i was at the cleveland today and it semmes like every month more and more snakes come in and more lizards come out :(. The trip wasnt a total fail tho. got me a red eyed tree frog :)

Oh yeah @axaraxia, forgot about the leopards and cresteds, they definitely filled in the gaps.

Better breakdown:

Ball pythons 70%
beardeds 15%
leopards 5%
cresteds 5%
other 5%... 4% spiders

Op means "original post". It most often refers to the first post of the thread, but doesn't have to.

Oh, and i could tell that you were just telling a story... I'm just shooting the s$!t w you... If it was serious thread I wouldn't comment unless I had something important to contribute.

Good luck w the roaches, wish me luck getting my colony started!

I think leos are a bigger part, and for some god forsaken reaason, onehairless cat.... Gotchyea now with your opp ya ou know me. Its 12:23 am and i feel like im making no sence. oh well. Good luck with your roches when did you get yours? If we have similar stock i propose a breed off!

a technique ive seen before with seperating the nymphs an easy way is to get two containers (for example, home depot buckets or tote containers) and drill small holes at the bottom of which ever one your going to use as the adult container, so the nymphs can fall through. Then taps some screws (4 or 5) all the way around the bottom container to hold the top one high enough for the nymphs to be able to have space to live. and vuala! all you have to do is continue to breed, feed, and easily pick out the meal for the day. theres already a thread about it with pics that ive seen before but cant find it. good luck.

Glad to hear your happy with the roaches. Amazing that I got my wife to go to reptile shows and to sell roaches. (I work most Sundays). She hates snakes too. They take some getting used to but I also think roaches are pretty cool also.

You got any Maddy Hissers available johnnyD ? :D.

I too was at the Cleve show for crickets/ worms. I seen the panthers, which looked in terrible condition. I know the breeder they came from but they looked very rough and young. Ohio is mostly snakes in general so get used to it.

chameleons are a hard sale cause these vendors are flippers and its hard for them to keep these chameleons looking healthy. Who wants to buy shabby looking chameleons. If they could actually take care of what they have and sold some semi decent looking animals they might not have such a hard time. Yea selling veileds at a show they should be $40 - $50. Half the people at the ohio shows are crooked flippers one way or another.

When buying at these shows im not interested in buy chameleons on the ground skinny as can be with both eyes closed even a $150 a panther. I dont care who the breeder is. Cleveland show has some good frog and gecko dealers there that actually have good animals and take pride in their stock. As well as few others but I dont frequent most tables. I wish I could say the same for the whole show.

One bug seller, may even be on this forum. Had a breeder veiled in a cup by herself, explaining how she just wont die. Gives her 2 silks a day. Take her for $4 bucks. I was just like what. seriously. She was missing her tail ect... I felt bad for her but it didnt really dawn on me that I should have taken her off his hands. This is the quality we have to choose from.
