Got some Silkworms!!!

I just harvested over 200 cocoons from my colony! Good luck on yours!
WOWWWWWW well mine don't appear to want to do anything but eat. I was really surprised when the tiny guy started to spin. I think he knew he was the next to be fed LOL. I need to order some more from you too. Most of mine are giants. I will message you later Stephen :)

My moths are starting to emerge. They look a little rough, I had to cut holes to help them out. Not sure if I did something wrong?

YAYYYY. Mine are all either done spinning or still spinning. So I am guessing they will all emerge days apart... Not sure how long they live once they are out but hopefully long enough to at least attempt this breeding thing. LOL

Sad day my silkworm food seems to have molded over since yesterdays feeding (insert crying emoji) guess it's a bsfl cricket day.

Damn shame I didn't even get halfway through them. I'm guessing the worms what ate mold are not safe to feed just gonna chalk this up as a Total loss.

I've got a couple pods worth of silkworms ready at the moment. In the near future, I will have 20 new races of silkworms! Some are very cool looking!

Niiiiiice! I've heard the Zebras are a little bit hardier which is honestly the only reason I am going for them over another. My little guy doesn't care about good looks when it comes to food :p, but the cooler they look the less grossed out his mom is. I'll circle back before I order in April to see what you have. Do you make your own chow, or buy it online?

Yeah, same nutritional value no matter the looks. I get my chow online, but be aware there are at least 2 kinds out there and one sucks! That's all I'll say on that. PM me for details.

I was going to order from one of the three big silkworm vendors (Mulberry, Coastal, or Oregon). Are any of those three the one that sucks, by chance? :p

No just buy them silk worm food. I ran out of food and had to buy more for mine. It is easy to make and stores in the fridge for I believe 2 weeks. I ordered mine off amazon and got fast shipping.

I read that you can give them carrot shavings in a pinch until you get food. It might turn your guys a little orange, though. I wouldn't jump to assume the worms are no good because they ate a little mold. Some insects live off mold! It may impact the worms health down the road since they are so finicky, but I don't think I'd be afraid to feed them if they may have eaten a little bit.

This is great news ! It's not like the food is covered but I worry so much about burns and parasites and infections as a new keeper that my mind went to worst case scenario.

Yep this is what I did. I woke up and the little pigs ate all their food so I shaved off carrot for them. And ordered this off amazon because it would ship quickly. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CWMS2Z2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
They were fine with the carrots for the 2 days until the chow arrived.

@Spyro88 has some now ;) We spend almost as much time with our bug babies as we do our chameleons.[/QUOTE]
i spend more time on feeders (cleaning tubs cutting egg crates, chopping veggies for gutloading dusting and all that jazz) than my other room mate spends on her dog

I've got a pretty wide assortment of veggies for my gutload (human and insect) should I stick to carrots or would sweet potatoes or greens be any better / worse ?
