*Graphic Warning* - His first house gecko

Eh, feeders are feeders.

I think maybe the forum should have people tag their threads with all this controversy going on. Like tag it [FEEDER GECKO] or [FEEDER MANTIS] at the end.

Too much work. But people don't have to look at the poor gecko unless they want.

Agree with every thing said I prolly won't post a picture like this again and if I do I will label it so people don't get offended I personally like nature at its finest. I've owned alligators and monitors before too so I guess I'm just summed down to that whole thing I watched a spider eat a mouse today and I loved and took pictures of that also.

No more because they are beloved by everyone. When most keepers look at them they think something neat and cool not something that is a food item for a chameleon.

anyway, I don't like feeding live vertebrates to my animals. a few years ago I fed my red ear slider live fish, it was pretty gross watching the poor fish getting hunted and dismembered alive! since then no more live vertebrates for my reptiles! ;)

I'd agree with you if you saw it in the wild! sorry but it's not "nature at its finest" when it happens in a tank or in a vivarium! it's just captivity at its finest.. with a hint of sadism :)

I don't understand what is so bad about this. Every once and a while, sure, give him a gecko or a pinkie!

Won't kill him to give him a treat every once in a while.

And this is chameleonforums.com and the title clearly says "his first gecko" so what else would you expect? :p

Not trying to be a debbie downer, but I don't understand why people give others such a hard time about this.

Cool pics btw. Just don't feed him geckos like that all the time or like others said it may cause issues.

We are lizard people, so feeding another lizard to a lizard is taboo in my book or atleast taking pictures of it and posting it. The title stated "his first house gecko" I thought maybe one was on the cage or something. I get them in my house and actually had one hanging on the side of the screen cages. Never thought of catching it and feeding it though. We have wild anoles down here. They get in my one outdoor cage all the time. I know my chameleons have gotten them from time to time. I just could not imagine feeding one purposely. To each his own and for you to wonder why we are all upset, we wonder why you are not. Someone posted a video of a chameleon eating a bird. They stated so and I chose not to look. We are all entitled to our opinions.

We are all entitled to our opinions.

That you are, but I feel like most people are way to harsh when these types of things are posted.

Its one thing to point out the health risks, but to attack a persons ethics is completely different.

If they fed a small human child to the chameleon, ok. I could understand that. However, these types of things do happen in the wild on occasion at least. They will even eat their young if left in the same enclosure.

In my opinion, it is wrong to say something harsh, or borderline hateful, or make someone feel as though they have done something extremely wrong, just because one has a weak stomach about something, thinks its "gross" or has personal issues with the subject matter.

If you have a personal issue with it, it is just that.

Sorry to those I offended. It was a house gecko I picked up for 2 dollars as a feeder at the reptile show today. Just trying to get that natural variety in I got the idea I
From a video I saw on here.. He LOVED it hunting that fast gecko.he a tally had quite a day crickets lobster roaches house gecko and strawberries.

Was the Gecko desert or the strawberries?

share said pictures or you lie :D

U asked for it

I personally find nothing wrong with it. Lets face it they definitely are eating them in the wild. Parson's and Meller's have been documented eating small birds. And who knows they may provide a nutritional kick. I Definitely don't think they should be given as anything but an infrequent treat.

This is cool, it made me sad, but he ate it, if he didnt want it, he wouldn't of.
How was his bowel movement???

What Fruits do you feed your veilded? I have a 1 1/2 yr old veilded. Please let me know, ill pm you too.

agree 100%

This is true, and I do have a personal issue with it am entitled to comment negatively or positively. This will be my last post in this thread.

just my opinion...

this is what the internet has created...
a generation of people whose idea of where the line that separates
right and wrong is, has moved exponentially from past generations.

they are entitled to drawing their own line.
but they don't believe that they should be made to consider who they share these images with...

that is what i think the difference is, they are somewhat oblivious to censoring these things and generally want to fight about it when challenged.

proof of that is posting the spider pic after the uproar the first post created,
either a lack of judgement or just in your face i have the pic and i am gonna post it, neener neener neener...

Exactly. I think people should just abort thread if they don't wanna see something like that.

Oh gosh! Where's the moderators when u need them! Pssshhh it's nature people. Would you be offended at a picture of me eating bacon!? No... Or maybe you would be. Oh well who cares? It's nature!!

Im guessing the title didnt have "Graphic Warning" at first?

Its kinda like people bitching about a radio or tv station. They dont have to watch or listen but they do and then they bitch:rolleyes:

You should feel free to post any opinion you like, same as anyone else.

However, I think everyone should take care in how they administer their opinion, so that others dont feel they are being demonized.

I would just hate for someone to feel overtly bad about doing something when they should not feel that way.

Thats when people start getting the wrong idea about things, and problems ensue.

I guess inflection is what Im talking about here, not so much as content.

Not commenting on the content of the thread, however, this has got to be single worst defense of any behavior ever.

"It's natural!!!" They cried as they fed a gecko, bred and born in captivity underneath lights manufactured in a far away country, in a cage made of man-made materials, in a room in which the temperature and humidity are rigorously controlled by lots of knobs, switches and dials to their chameleon which was either raised very similarly to the scenario I painted above or was snatched up out of the wild, shipped in a box half-way across the continent in what I would presume to be some form of climate controlled ride, burning up gallons of fossil fuels in internal combustion engines to have said chameleon delivered to their very door.

*rolls eyes for eternity*
