Gravid female not eating

Hey All,

My female T.Deremensis is due to lay on May 25th but I noticed she has not eaten in a week. She is drinking though. But I am getting worried that she stopped eating too soon before she tries to lay.

I know females will lose appetites but wondering if I should do anything to help like making tube feed? I don't want to stress her out though because she is due to lay in about a week and a half.

Have you tried any flies or moths? Sometimes that will work, as for force feeding I am unsure when you should attempt that. Is she hanging out at the bottom of the cage and dark?

See ya,

Todd

She was this morning. But this afternoon and evening she went all the to the top and drank and was bright green. She has been hanging under the UVB light also.

Someting to lay in ?

Dose she have a laying bin? There isn't a certain number of days. Some go early some go late. just gotta be ready when they are.

Yeah she has had one for about 2 weeks now.

And she is alone without anyone bothering her or in sight.

I don't believe you have anything to worry about yet. A week without food for a very gravid female is common.
You can try flies or moths like Todd mentioned, but you will be doing it more for you than for her. If she was eating well up to a week ago, providing that she is not about to experience any problems, she would eat if she wanted to. With all the eggs in her stomach, often times, it press upon the internal organs which includes the stomach.
Since she is wandering on the bottom of the cage, time is very near.
If her eyes start to get sunken in, then you can start worrying.

Thanks very helpful...

She mated Late January.

I just took a look and she is now in her egg laying bin. I did not want her to see me but hopefully I will have eggs soon...Fingers crossed.

Yep she is laying eggs right now!!

Question-If the room light was on should I leave it on? Because it her auto timer lights are going to go off. OR should I leave the room light on? Wondering if total darkness with bother her.

Don't change her schedule. She will lay on her schedule light or no light. She expects the lights to go off so let them. Byw my quad went almost 3 weeks without food. I was a wreck, she didn't seen to mine. Congratulations I will waiting to hear eggs you get.:):)

Man Im jealouse! I dont even have them to start with :( Hopefully I will get them some day though:) Whats it like keeping these guys? Have you got any WC`s that you had to acclimate, how was that? I might get some of these guys in June and July and I dont want to screw anything up with them.

And good luck with the with the eggs, but from what I have read it is pretty straight forward from here?

Its actually not bad at all. As long as you keep humidity up and do your mists they do fine.

I have a humidifier running about 12 hours a day cause I live in NJ. Not that much humidity. Then I have a Mist King running 5 times a day for a couple minutes at a time. I drip every other day.

If interested I have a pair for sale. A male and a female. On the classifieds.

I'm from NY and I'm planning on running a humidifier about the same way for my incoming quads.
Same with misting and drippers.

Do you let up a bit in the summer months? Or is the AC going a lot and you just run things the same?

Thanks, I heard you need to feed them so little because they move so little and get quite fat quite fast which can lead to death?
If I were in the U.S I wouldnt think twice about buying the pair from you, sadly Im in South Africa and cant get them from you:(

I kinda look at the humidity gauge and adjust from there in summer. Not much of a difference though. Except I leave the light on a little longer in summer.

I can see 3 or 4 eggs but she is still there laying I think. I dont want to bother her but its been 2 days so i will just let her be until she leaves.

She is prolly tired.

As far as lighting goes, id rather leave it on.

I had chams that layed before in the dark after the sun goes down and they eand up sleeping in the egg laying site.

I would recommend you leave the light on till she is finished as switching the light off may alarm her causing stress or unease
