Grow tent for cham :O

I was looking into a cage for my tegu when I came across people using grow tents, which look like really neat little things for reptiles. If it can hold in a tegu, I can see no problem with it keeping in a chameleon.

The only problems I can think of are hanging the branches and drainage. They are specifically made for growing plants though, which is interesting. I've been looking into these odd kinds of things for reptiles lol. They have a piece of pvc which you can hold lights on :D. I was wondering how possible this is though. Seems like a REALLY cheap route for me to get an oustalets lol because even the huge sizes are just over 100$.

I don't know how any creature would do living in a foil box like that. Why shut the cham off from the rest of the world? You can't observe the cham and it can't see the rest of the visual world around it. How would you attach proper lighting? Are those openings screened? If not, how will you provide proper air exchange? How would you handle all the runoff from misting or would it build up on the bottom?

Now if you used the frame for this tent and replaced the entire cover with windowscreen it might make sense.

IMHO, if you are going to keep a large arboreal species such as an oustaleti why not build it decent cage yourself?

Even with the copious modifications you would have to make, I'm not sure you could make this into an appropriate cham habitat. I'll let the tegu owners fight about this on their own forum, but this would not be a good habitat for a chameleon. Too flimsy to hang vines, lights on the inside (no!), and controlling water will be a nightmare... but I'm sure it would cook your chameleon just fine. ><

"I don't see how any creature could live in a box like that" was what pissed me off. I'm slightly mentally disabled so sometimes stupid ideas come to mind. I just asked a question. A simple "no" is fine.

If that were mostly screen it would be a great size to house a Cham. Unfortunately it is much better to grow "plants" in. So, no, it's not a good enclosure for a chameleon.

I did not make that comment to be rude, I made the comment because I truly had to ask why anyone would choose to house an animal in something designed for plants. I was not trying to be judgmental, I was simply surprised that someone would try it as there would be so many reasons not to. If I had responded with just a "no", chances are someone would want to know why.

see? this is perfect. And like I did mention, I am disabled, so I hope that answers your question. You were very clearly judgemental, Jesus. I hope you re-read your post.

Reptiles4ever, I know Carlton did not intend to be judgemental at all. She is a very knowledgeable chameleon keeper. I've never seen a post where she has insulted or judged someone. Please don't feel offended. It's often hard to read a person based on text. Keep with it and enjoy the hobby
