Gutload For Sale?

I have started looking into purchasing a chameleon and I am in the research stage right now... I have read about the importance and necessity of gutloading, my question is, are there pre-made gutload products on the market that are effective if I do not make my own? If so, is there a particular brand that is recommended? Thanks!

welcome - it is so nice to see you researching BEFORE you get your cham :)
I have no doubts, you will be an AWESOME cham owner - and one leads to many - lol
you can also get many great feeders from Nick - go check it out ;)

I use a combo of Cricket Crack and Repashy Bug Burger (dry seems to work better and last longer), with added spirulina, bee pollen, brewers yeast, flax seed, dehydrated milk, and a couple others. For hydration, I feed organic Spring Salad Mix and whatever is extra in the fridge.

Props to you for researching beforehand. Should be the case with any pet, but especially so with chameleons.

Personally, I buy different types of greens and such at the store and sprinkle a bit of cricket crack on them. I also leave a damp paper towel in the other meal tray for hydration. Seems to be working well with my crickets!

Thanks again for all the feedback! Another question, how long should the insects be eating the gutload before they are fed to the cham?

As long as possible, but minimum of 24hrs. I try for at least 48hrs with new cricket boxes.

Sounds good... What do you keep your crickets in?

Large sterlite bins from Walmart, with no lid. 2 egg trays, paper towel roll, food bowl (plastic pnut butter jar lid), and a (3pk tomato) tray for veggies. Each bin holds a1,000 crickets. Change egg trays and clean about every 4-5 days, as needed.

Agreed on the large sterilite bins to house your feeder crickets.

Also, when cleaning my cricket containers, I dump the cricket poo into my rose bushes in the garden. The roses seem to like this as I have many more flowers this year than I've ever had.
Just my observation....:)

Do the cricket bins need a light? Some of the pics I have looked at have a light, but most don't seem to have one???

You don't need a light for your cricket bin.

Personally, I go through about 200 crickets a week between my chameleons and geckos.

When I feed the last crickets, in the morning, I get more the same day after cleaning out the bin.

The best thing you can do for your chameleons and other bug eating reptiles is to gutload the prey with a good commercial diet or fresh veggies and some fruits. This forum is filled with great information on gutloading insects.
