Hanging on bottom

Is there any reason why my chameleon would go to the bottom of the cage besides being unwell? He eats well, he drinks well, he has a pretty trusted routine, but he travels a lot, and sometimes I find him low down. If I approach his cage when he is on the bottom, or close to it, he immediately climbs back up. I'm just wondering if he's looking for something that I'm not giving him.

Are you sure you have a male?

If it is a male, I don't see and issue if he's just exploring. I've had many climb to the bottom and then climb back up. It's only a problem if they're just laying there at the bottom

He is definitely a male, and he travels a lot. I also suspectthat he is looking for escape routes. He got out a couple of days ago, and I think he liked it.

Watching our chameleons gives me the impression that especially the males are patrolling their territory. We have Panthers, Veileds, and Jacksons, all of them are up and down all day long.

I've had them do that when the temps got too hot on top and they were just chilling where it was cooler. Also, on the hunt for crickets roaming around the bottom. Check the temps?

Sounds like a normal male patrolling or wanting more space. I would think if he was too hot he'd be showing pale washed out coloration and sitting quietly low down in the cage much of the time.

My 1.5 year old male veiled loves to patrol the enclosure including the bottom. I love to see chameleons walking on flat ground. It looks strange and funny.
