Hello! I was on these forums two or so months ago, and since then I've still been trying to look at some good deals and saving money up for my chameleon (that I yet to have)! So, I was looking on eBay for some cages, and I found a guy claiming to sell you a panther egg(s) with a temporary incubator until they hatch? I mean, it seems real, but idek what to look for lol. Here's a link-

You cannot really compare the needs of crested geckos to chameleons... Very different species. Have you owned a chameleon before? Hatching your own and raising a hatchling is very difficult and ultimately expensive. If you are looking to save money, I don't think this is a good option.

Yes, I wasn't trying to really compare, I was just kinda excited about it and thought it was more like chameleons than snakes were... sorry ill take that out. No, I haven't owned a chameleon before. I've researched A LOT though and I think I'm prepared I just need... the chameleon lol. I just thought it was a pretty cool idea, not necessarily that I'd do it :) But, I do actually think it could save money! I mean, Panthers go for $200+ and these eggs are only $65! If your egg hatched, you could get a cheap Panther. I also think it would be a cool experience, he includes the incubator, a guide to your egg all the way to adulthood, and he's open to questions!

Sure, but then think about the other equipment you would have to buy for the baby. You would need an appropriately sized cage/lights/etc for a baby, which would later need to be upgraded. The overall cost of the total equipment for the baby would easily make up for the ~$150 price difference. Not to mention, babies are way more likely to have health issues than juveniles and the vet visits associated with that will also make up the price difference.

All I'm saying is, while the initial price is cheaper, the practical element is most definitely not

I see.
What if I had an adult-sized cage, but jam-packed it full of foliage so s/he'd feel secure? I know it's that way with snakes (not trying to compare), that if you gave a baby ball python a 100gal tank, but packed it full of hides and leaves, he'd do just fine. Can you do that for a baby cham? Probably not for a hatchling, and for a hatchling I could prepare a tub for the first few months of their lives. But yes... vet visits. Yea, I probably wouldn't have enough "leftover" money for surprise visits.
I see what you mean, I probably wouldn't do this (y) But is it legit? Like, for someone prepared for all of this, is this a real thing?

Some people have had success, many people have had failures. It is never recommended for people new to the hobby and the price point is misleading. It would be a fun project later on once you have experience under your belt. I've been keeping chameleons for a decade now and still consider it way too risky. Plus you have to consider the problem of shipping the egg... Chameleon eggs are sensitive and best left undisturbed, so shipping is problematic as well

If by incubator, you mean deli cup with vermiculite in it. As @Syreptyon mentioned, do you really think you can care for all of the baby's needs? Baby panthers hatch out dime sized.

Ok,ok, I'm not doing this. I just wanted to know if its a real deal and not a scam. Sorry
you can be it a try but I would guess there no guarantee they hatch and to have them survive later on. Babies have a certain amount mortality, even when they hatch. If you want to be sure i would buy a juvenile later on, until you get the hold on their husbandry.

I'm learning this page. I have ordered from him several times. Think out of 5 tries got one veil charm. The incubator is basically a deli cup. It was a very disappointing experience and about 300.00 wasted.

Veil charm? What do you mean? Did you keep them in the right conditions?

Yes he said they were suppose to be Panthers . Yes followed his instructions to the teee... but watching the veil chameleon was nice he's 3 years old now

Wow! That is awful. Just the odds that you would get a female are like 2-1 in panthers but then not even getting a panther, outrageous.

Wow, I understand now, that sucks, but at least you have a Veiled that is doing well! (y)
