Hatchling Uthmoelleri at Last!!!!!!

I looked at the eggs first thing this morning and one more baby has pipped it's egg and has it's head poking out. I hope it will be a little girl for Jared :) The first hatchling cruised it's cage all day and was very active. I'm pretty convinced that its a male. Today is the day it should start to eat.

From all I have read on this thread you have really accomplished a rare breeding. Way to go, keep up the excellent work. I didn't know how impressive this was when I first read the thread, for me it was just more cute babies!! Sometimes I just know way to little. Congrats again.:D

Very very good work! Congratulations!

I'd like to hear more about the way you incubated your eggs.
The six months is a very nice time.

Way to go Catherine! What an accomplishment! Your committment is an inspiration and I will be waiting (however impatiently) for updates!

Four Babies so Far :)

Thank you all for all your congrats and encouragement! Of the nine eggs, five have hatched. One hatchling died a day later. So I have four crawling around their baby cage. I cleaned the cage yesterday and found one tiny little poop :D That's good news. That's probably from the first hatchling. The four remaining eggs look good. I can see a dark area where the little hatchling is in the egg. They look like they are a bit behind the others that hatched. The four babies go from being a solid tan color to a varying green color to a highly patterned color. I think Royden is coming over this weekend. He was going to come earlier but he got very sick with the flu. He should be able to get some great shots. They seem to be plump and hydrated looking. I'm trying not to get attached. I feel like I am flying by the seat of my pants with these babies and not feeling confident about my ability to grow them up to the point where I feel they will make it to adulthood. Thanks again for all your support!

Update :)

I ended up with six adorable little hatchlings. Nine eggs were laid. One egg went bad right away. One hatchling died after it's first day and the very last egg had a dead fully formed hatchling in it. The six seem to be doing well. Lots of little poops each day. I finally got to see them eat in front of me today. They were pretty shy in front of me until today. I was hoping that Royden would be over soon to take pictures. It may be a while though so I might have to take some bad ones myself next week after I fully recover from that dreaded "cough" "cough" swine flu. Nasty thing to have and I'm trying not to handle any living creature in my house. They found that cats can get it from humans and I'm taking no chances that a chameleon could somehow get it too. Thanks for asking about the little ones Adam :)

You cant complain about 6 out of 9!!!! Hopefully they will all thrive for you!!! Good to hear they are all eating too!!! I bet they are tearing up the FFs:)

Whooo hoooo Catherine - any new photos of the little guys yet? Not that we are impatient or anything.

Have been sick...........

Hi all :) I've had a difficult time recovering from that icky flu thing. Thought I was getting better and then it went into my lungs. I took a real nose dive last week. I'll try to get those pictures done this week. I'm trying to get caught up on general stuff. I did lose the weakest hatchling. One that was not thriving and not moving around as well. The others look really good. It looks like three males and two females. The males are very highly patterned already. The females are green with a rosey blush to their undersides. Pretty easy to sex. No need to wait for tail bulges. Thanks for your continued interest and support.

Wow, congrats Catherine! I'm sure they will do well for you and please let me know about any leftovers!! Congrats again

That is great news, Catherine!!! Sorry to hear about the one but you cant beat 5 nice looking hatchlings!! I cant wait for some pics. Hope you get better soon.

Pictures at last.....

Tried to take some pictures today when I cleaned their little cage. They are easy to sex when they are comfortable in their own small cage. When I take them out they all become a solid dark green. Some of them later assume the coloration that shows their sex as shown in the pictures. A couple of them (one male and one female) were so shy I could not get any picture of them.

Female #1 shows a pretty overall minty green color:

Male #1 shows how the males look when they are comfortable. This male is the smallest of the five siblings. You can actually see a mini tail bulge in the picture that I never saw in person:

Male1.JPG

Male #2 shows a green phase that the males have when they are being shy. You can still see some of the barring on the sides and tail:

Male2.JPG

It's pretty amazing how the males can go from dark green to a vivid brown and green pattern. They are now mostly eating the crickets. The fruit flies aren't filling them up any more. Sorry for the delay in getting pictures up!

Look at those tails! I am suprised they don't trip over them. Congratulations Catherine and thanks for the effort in getting photos up. I hope you are feeling better soon.
