Hello! CFs ,want you to meet Ike Miles sadly(RIP)

Miles Horn

New Member
Ike was my first chameleon, I went to utube and learned allot about cages and I prepared well for him. I bought him from petsmart where I saw that two of his horns were broken, they told me he was young and later the horns were going to grow normal size..So I took him and little Ike was fine except that he closed his eyes allot which i thought it was normal, but then I started to see that his kinda suck his eyes in and some bag of blood sort of thing popped out when he did it ... and saw something stuck in his mouth. So I rapidly took him to the vet and I was told he had mouth rot and he did not gave much hope because he said he had something else for some time. I was so depress that I still don't know what happen.:(
What causes mouth rot??

His color is not like other Jacksons ive seen, is the yellowish normal????

This was NOT your fault.
You could gutload the crickets with more nutritious things.
Sandrachameleon has the best info, you can read about it here:
https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/sandrachameleon/

Calcium shouldnt be given everyday for a jackson. One or two days a week. (Giving everyday for 1/2 month would not have caused the issue, or for him to die)
The chameleon likely had issues before you got him.
Im sorry this happened to you.

He looks a bit yellow yes, but it doesnt look abnormal.
My girl went through a "yellow phase" where she was more yellowish like that.
To my knowledge it doesnt indicate anything and is normal.
His bright green actually indicates he is happy, or content.

Good luck with the veiled.... I have one also, a female and shes always nasty and hissy. Some people tell me veils are just this way especially females. Next time I am going panther or anything but Veiled. Captive bred for sure.

Sorry to hear about your Jacksons. Thanks for sharing your story.

Ive seen plenty of Jacksons, especially CB and around 2-3 months of age. From the looks of that pic, that Jacksons is not 1-2 months old, looks more like an adult to me with the size of the horns and body in comparison to your hand (unless your a toddler!). I would say its probably an imported cham, hence the borken horns and poor health.
