Hi everyone!
I would like to make two introductions today. one for myself, and one for my new panther cham!
first of all, i am not completely new to the world of chams. i have three veiled fems, all of which are adults that have been in my care for a little over a year.
However, i have never owned a panther, or a male cham. and Snipe is the best of both . he is a male juvenile (about 7-8 weeks) and i recieved him in the mail yesterday THANK YOU KAMMERFLAGE!
he is a beautiful little guy, and is already showing some light greens and blues.
all that being said, i have a few questions about the care for a panther.
first of all, the lighting system. i am using a reptisun 5.0 (COMPACT VERSION) elevated a few inches from the top of the terrarium (screen enclosure) and a zoo med 50W basking bulb. his basking spot is 86f, and the overall enclosure sits between 78-82 as the day goes by. last night with all the lights off the temp dropped to 72. my veileds dont mind the night temp, but snipe was a pretty dark brown when i went to turn on the lights this morning. my veileds only get dark if they are stressed... is 72 too cold? on alother note, i have seen him eat a few wandering (small crickets), but i dont think he knows how to eat from his feeder, (dasani water bottle). he sits underneath it until he gets tired of trying to get to the crickets. and when i mist (which he hates) i don't see him drink. I run a room humidifier for all the chams, it doesnt make any noise, but he avoids the steady flow of fog when it is on. I use dasani water for everything, watering, misting, humidifying, and dripping. all of my veileds drink from their bowls, i use a dripper at the top of the cage which drips into the water bowl creating a ripple (the girls LOVE IT)... I dont think snipe knows its there
even though it is in plain site, i think he is still getting used to his cage. (and me) whenever he sees me he flips (literally) and runs the other way. I am trying to be as stealthy as i can, but hes got some great eyes. so when i water or feed, i run away as fast as i can and let him be the shy guy lol so... any tips/ suggestions from any panther owners would be greatly appreciated!
thanks a million
