Help and advice really needed!

Hi, I'm new to this forum and also new to keeping Chameleons, and I really need some advice! I bought a male veiled chameleon from a .. what I thought was a reputable place, I was a little concerned right from the beginning but trusted the shop and the man I brought my little chameleon from. My chameleon "Mo" was about 6 months old when I brought him home and up until a month or so ago I thought he was doing really well. Anyway I started to notice changes in him and started to get worried ... while still trusting the place I bought him from! anyway I should of gone with my gut instinct as last weekend I found Mo at the bottom of the vivarium looking gravid and surprise there were 3 eggs behind HER!! I put a box with soil in for her and overnight she laid 27 eggs. but this weekend she is looking lethargic I can now see eggs still in her belly and I have found 3 eggs at the bottom of the vivarium.... I have put a lay box in for her but she does not appear interested in it and is remaining at the top..so the 3 eggs have dropped from there, I've also put a sheet around her Viv for privacy. I don't know what to do to help her, she is still drinking and eating ... is she egg bound?

Hi welcome to the forums. They can have upwards of 80 eggs, but the average is around 40- 50. If she is eating and drinking after laying 33 eggs she might be alright, and done. However I would advise taking her to a good reptile vet and make sure.

Hi - sounds as if you should take your girl to the vet to see if they can help you get her other eggs out. I have no direct experience of gravid females but search the forums here and I'm sure others have had similar experiences. Definitely call the shop - they owe you free advice! Also, listen to the Chameleon Breeders Podcast for lots of interesting and useful advice. The latest ep is about importation and the guy gives a great recipe for a kind of bug cocktail which he gives to sickly chams. It contains bugs, corn syrup, olive oil, and electrolytes which give the cham energy to pick itself up and feed or poop. Your girl may just need an energy boost to lay the rest of her eggs. But as you're just starting out, I think the vet should be the first call you make. Really good luck. Hope Mo is okay x
