My Chameleon is getting worse! His eye has a crusty skin over the opening and the rest of the ball appears dry it looks like he also has some snot in his nose on the side of the eye infected. Is this sinus? a cold? not sure what to do.

I will be heading to the vet today at 4 PM but in the meantime is there anything I can do to help him? it seems to bother him like he keeps squishing his eye in anyone ever experience this?

Here is the situation as I spelled it out yesterday...

Dehydration...

He just cleared the junk off his eye and seems happier. I just been spraying/misting his cage every 20 minutes he actually came down and drank right from the mister I hope this is the problem but will still take him to visit Dr. Gray just to be safe.

The vet visit is a good idea just to make sure. If it is an eye issue I mist, mist & more misting. I also wash the eye out with human eye wash. Let us know how the vet visit goes, good luck.

My lil guy had something sort of similar. His eye first hazed over a bit, looked cloudy. Then it appeared to have a film over the lens. When I rinsed it with saliene really well it cleared up. I had to continue rinsing twice a day for a few days. I think my cham had a vitamin A deficiency.

That is what I am doing Misting like crazy it seems to be working he actually came down and drank directly from the misting bottle, strange guy.

yeah I am wondering about mine regarding A...

Yeah I read it could be dehydration, Vitamin A or upper resp. infection. I am thinking it is a little of dehydration and Resp. infection because he has not really drank from the leaves until today and his nose seems to have some dry snot on it. Sure the vet will know but am happy he was able to clear the stuff himself today.

I will post what the vet has to say.

Let us know what the vet says. It does seem different than what my cham had, except that when I rinsed his eye, a clear layer came off, which made me think there was a possible similarity. I will be curious to hear. It seems that there have been quite a few different eye problems on the forum lately and I'd like to learn more about the issue.

I'd treat for dehydration and a possible infection before dosing with Vit. A. Frankly, a vitamin A problem would probably affect both eyes.

Symptoms all lead to possible dehydration...

The Dr. Thinks it is a minor dehydration issue. No meds just syringe hydrate and watch for any other symptoms should they occur.

Otherwise he is healthy minus all the cricket legs in his stool :) guess I should pluck them off before I feed them to him or offer up mor supers.

Back Again...

Ugh his eye is getting that crap on it again! I will bring in a humidifier tomorrow and let it run all weekend for him hope it helps!

You should consider the saliene rinse if you haven't tried it already. I think for my cham it at least made him more comfortable, and he could see out of that eye better. His issue cleared up after a few days.
