Help! He wont eat!

Wax worms would be good for a day. As long as its not a staple feeder. I would be careful with the moths. It's really up to you. There is a chance that they could have come into contact with some pesticides and it could affect your Cham. So it really is up to you of you wanna do it. I personally wouldn't do it because I don't wanna risk it.

i agree, i dont want to risk it with my little guy. i just want these darn silkworms to hurry up and get here! i just dont know what i can get at a pet store to try and feed him in the mean time.

I feed mine moths all the time, when I can catch them. If they have come in contact with pesticides most likely they will be dead and not flying around at your lights at night! What I do is I catch them at night, put them in a container for about 8 hours or so. If they are dead...well...if they are alive I feed them!!!

im def going to feed him silkworms i think he'll love them, do you think like 5 or 6 wax worms for a few days would hurt tho? he is really thin, very underweight for a cham his age, hes just over 10 months old and only 200 grams or less D:

that is NOT underweight at all. If he is around 200 grams that is a very large chameleon for 10 months. He is 10 months old and still has alot of growing to do. Like I said, he does not look all that thin in the pictures. Are you sure you are weighing him right? Members who have full grown adults do not even weigh 200 grams. No those waxworms are not going to hurt him at all.
Just when you get some more healthy feeders for him I would not feed so many waxworms in one day. looking back at the picture he really does not look thin. Who told you he was so underweight? The vet???

Hmmm maybe I should try to catch some moths tonight. Other than the 1 meal worm I was able to get him to eat, mine hasn't eaten in about 4 or 5 days. He doesnt want to hand feed as he is afraid of me. Maybe I will try a bird dish to rule out him not liking the cup that is in there. I have a mist king on the way and maybe I should try the force feeding like in the video, just figure that is last resort as I want him to learn to eat something on his own. It is so frustrating.

I hope your silk worms come soon! I just put in an order for silk worms and horn worms. I was able to get Rex to eat 2 meal worms today so I am starting to think he is like yours, maybe he only likes worms. I hope these worms arrive quickly along with the mist king. I have never stressed so much about a pet in my life!

I know!!! have you tried any bigger worms like superworms? sometimes my little guy wont take the wax worms because they're to small for him to see. maybe try a bigger worm like superworms, you can get them at petco, not a good staple food but at least its something until the silkworms get there! you should post some pictures of your little guy on here so we can see him, try to get a good shot of his eyes. Also do you have a dripper set up and how often does yours poop?

Here are a couple pictures of him. He has finally lost the shedding skin on his head that you can see in the pictures. It was stuck on the top of his head for about 2 weeks. We do have a dripper going all day and we mist him 2-4 times a day. I think the mist king will really help with hydration and humidity when it gets here. I have been reading everything I can in the forum to be sure I am doing what he needs. Thank you for letting me take part in your thread. It has really helped. :D

did you get to try any moths? i was to busy last night to try and catch some. overall hes a good looking cham tho!

Wasn't able to get any moths. The short time I did go out and look there were only a couple tiny ones around the porch lights. Figures the one day I want them they arent around.

I was able to hand feed Rex 3 meal worms today. I know it's not a good diet, but he is eating! He still doesn't go to the cup/bowl but it's a start. Thanks to Lolcakes post I concentrated more on worms and that seems to be what he likes. Hopefully the silk worms arrive soon. How is your guy doing Lolcakes?

ours is doing good, he hasnt eaten today but yesterday i tricked him into eating 4 crickets. id hold out a waxworm and when he'd go for them id throw the cricket in front real fast. I tried to take a video of how i do it but he wouldnt eat anything in front of the camera... guess hes camera shy haha. I know its mean but he WONT eat anything thats good for him just waxworms and superworms. My silkworms should be here tomorrow or the next day, if he likes these ill prob buy like 100 or 200 and then get 1000 eggs and try my luck at growing my own :D Oh btw did you get to try any superworms with your guy yet?

I didn't try super worms yet. I was hoping I would get the silk worms soon. I hope by the end of the week. I don't know if I am coordinated enough to trick him in to eating crickets haha. That's a cool trick though.

yeah its difficult, sometimes u can just put the cricket on his tongue. My silkworms got shipped today, they should be here weds hopefully yours should too!!! did u get yours from mulbery farms?

Wish i would have known about that site. I live 15 mins away from their office... What are the odds. hahaha

Well after reading the mulberry farms site and reading that their products are from the US and not china I looked closer at the smallpetfeeders website and it says they get some from China. So I wont be ordering from them again. All future orders will be from mulberry farms.

I had a 3 month old Chameleon come to me with a dried piece of shed on his head. He stopped eating for an entire week and I still have no idea what happened. I think a few factors were in play, but he ended up shedding again and the next day he ate a cricket. I wonder if the dried skin is playing a part in it.

He was probably stressed out from the move and the shed. For alot of chams high stress levels mean they dont want to eat. I think for my guy he just needs variety.
