I built a 4ft cage for my male Jackson names Beast. He seems to like it i have a tall Schafflera (or however you spell that ;)) and some vines going around on top. The problem im experiencing is how to feed him crickets. He doesnt want to eat out of a cup or bowl that i places in there at the top, if i put the crickets in there they immediately jump to the bottom of the cage and i havent seen him down there. I dont have all day to feed him a cricket at a time making sure that they land on a leaf in front of him (i have done that for the past 2 days.. ugh). Any suggestions??

Can you post a pic of your enclosure? How long have you tried to cup feed? They will usually get hungry enough to give in to the idea.

The crix will eventually go the heat source for warmth. So they may start on bottom but they will climb to the top of the screen. Becoming easy prey. That is if you have a screen cage.

I have had them for about a week and the female does fine she will come right up to me to feed but he is really scared.

Do you have them both in the same cage? If so they need to be seperated asap. The male is going to harass the female and she will be stressed.

That looks like an Umbrella Tree and is not recommended for chams due to their toxcity (see link below). If you've only had them for a week, they are still getting acclimated to their new surroundings and may not eat. Keep trying with the feeder bowl method or like Texas Panther Man said "The crix will eventually go the heat source for warmth. It's too bad .. those umbrella plants are gorgeous. I saw one at Lowes yesterday - it was HUGE ... I was actually considering buying it so I'm happy you just mentioned that link Donna ... phew!!!

Our veiled likes to hang out around the upper branches of his enclosure too, we put the crickets on the top screen and he usually nabs them just fine. I hold them upside down and let them grab the top screen and crawl on it, then Angus chows down!
