I have a veiled chameleon about 2 yrs old female and recently she was diagnosed with MBD. Her back legs were not moving and her tail was not curling. She has a hump in her back right above her tail. I took her the vet and she's been taking pain meds, calcium, and oil. She has gotten better as in eating an being active but she will not poop. It's been a little over 6 days and she's starting to shed now. She can't climb her legs are barely moving but her tail is still curling. I am still giving her meds and soaking her in warm water rubbing her belly and sides which she does not like. When she goes back in her cage I put a warm towel at the bottom so she's relaxed. I give her mealworms and waxworks. The crickets are too fast for her right now. I have to hand feed her which she likes. But I don't know. What else to do to make her poop! I don't want her to pass.any help would be appreciated

Try other feeders than wax and mealworms. Don't think they gave much nutritional content.
I think juicy horn/silk/butter worms may help her go. Although if she hasn't eaten she may not need to poop.

Ya she's eating but then again she is shedding slowly. I think she threw up also . It looks like throw up and poop mixed actually.

so she finally peed and she is moving her legs more when she walks. I think she was just over fed before she started to shed. I didn't feed her last night so she was able to digest what she has in her belly. But this morning i went to give her her meds and she immediately threw them up, she wont eat anything and shes been sleeping a lot more. i gave her water and misted her to prevent dehydration. so is she sick now? i have a feeling she will be passing soon.

...

I really hope your cham will be all right!
I would give cod liver oil, just drops. I heard it works. I gave mine olive oil, it worked too,but cod liver is even better.

All the best and keep us informed!

thanks for the advice! :) i heard unflavored pedialyte would help her also.. not sure if that is a good idea or not i've been searching on the forum to see if anyone else has done it but no luck.

Mealworms are high in chitin which makes them hard to digest and pass. Waxworms may taste good but they are also not the best feeder. Pain meds often cause constipation too. And, because she's not moving around her intestinal contents won't move as much either. To keep things moving stick to feeders that are high in moisture content and encourage her to keep moving too.

If she is drinking on her own, don't give Pedialyte. Water is better.

right now i have her in the bottom of her screen cage (small) and shes lying on the bottom on a white soft towel (so i can tell when she goes the bathroom) with vines hanging above her and some on the bottom so she can hide . i have a small branch for her to climb on if able to. impaction is what the vet thinks it is but isnt sure yet.

i will try and give her some gut loaded crickets then see if she can snatch them up and ill stick with just water. today would be the first i havent given her pain meds so im hoping when i get home soon i will see a big turd or two lol or even tomorrow would be nice also. thank you

a warm bath in shallow water may loosen it up

She relaxed when being soaked but no poop. I read something about mixing sugar with something to make a paste to put on her vent which will shrink the swelling. Have you heard about this? Or has anyone else read this?

She pooped!!!!

So she finally pooped a little bit but she so lethargic . She won't open her eyes at all now. I'm trying to keep her hydrated but she won't even open her mouth.... Now what is wrong is she sick?

Now she has black spots on her and they aren't burns since she is laying at the bottom of the cage with eyes shut won't open at all. She hasnt drank anything nor ate I'm soon worried. I've been doing everything possible to save her and when one good thing happens many bad things happen. It's almost 6am I'm afraid to go to sleep in case she does pass. I'm getting pedialyte to soak her in when the stores open
