Help needed. Landlord spraying house for bugs

okay, so as the title says.. My landlord informed me that a pest company will be coming next week to spray the house. He informed me to remove anything from the cabinets, etc. I am really concerned for my veiled. Has anyone came across this issue before? Should I move her outside? Cover her cage? If so, how long until I move her back? Will the fumes kill her? I'm just very unsure about this and want to keep her safe. Should I tell them to not spray in the general area her enclosure usually is? I am really considering taking off work to be there while they spray. Any insight and advice is greatly appreciated and encouraged. Thanks.

Remove the cham and cage for 24-48 hours depending on lingering fumes and type of pesticides. Ask the sprayer guy/gal how long before pets can return with the type they used. Wait an additional 12-24hours, as dogs and cats have larger CNS, heart, lungs, etc... Also, any extra branches, supplies, etc... that may come in contact with your hands. Anything that is transferable. If you have exposed feeders (crickets or roaches), I would remove them also. Preferable to buy new ones once spraying is done. Any silkworms, hornworms, or flies in a pod can just be taken with you. Upon returning, place cage on a stand of sorts at least 1-2' off the ground and NEVER feed any escaped feeders to your chameleon. After the spraying, I would run any and all air filters, stove exhaust fan, bathroom exhaust fans, etc for about 48 hours to help remove fumes. I have seen people on this site have this exact situation and everything turned out fine. Just play it safe and all will be well. Think twice before doing anything upon returning cham to home, so you don't make any mistakes (i.e. did spray touch water spout, extra cricket bins, etc... their livers and kidneys are itty bitty so you want to limit any contact)

If they told you to open and empty your cabinets it sounds like they are bombing not spraying. I would absolutely not let anyone spray while you are not there. I would remove him if that's the only way. I would not move him back in until any Oder had dissipated. I live in Florida so our house is treated every 3 months. It's a liquid sprayed onto the baseboards. I don't treat in the room my Cham is in. Then the next time they are here I temporarily move him to a different room so they can treat his room, and not spray the room he's in at the moment. By shifting him around, he never has spray in the room he's in but eventually all the room get sprayed. I have heard other members that spray in the room but not right near the enclosure and I don't think they have had any problems. My worry about them doing it while you are not there is bombs are cheaper. It's released in the air and coats everything, that will defiantly kill your Cham and any feeders you keep.

pest spraying

Your manager should notify pest control to not spray any chemicals that will be harmful to your chameleons or any pets. My complex didn't notify me and they sprayed the exterior front and around my windows and I had left windows open and it over sprayed my chameleon cages inside my home and both chameleons didn't survive. They should be using gel chemicals inside your aptm or around windows inside or outside. good luck hopefully they use gel chemicals.

Like others stated, remove everything living from your place and leave it outdoors and I suggest not leaving an open window that leads directly to the outdoor area where your animals/plants are.

I recently had my apartment bombed/sprayed because my dog got bit by something so they came in and took care of mites, fleas, spiders whatever else. The techs were super cool and said open windows and make sure you vacuum several times after the initial spray period.

BTW I didnt have to be out for 24 hrs or anything like that, so I'd double check with the Pest service to see how long you need to be out.

Okay. Thanks for the insight everyone. They didn't say that we had to be out of the house for any amount of time. Just that we needed to empty the cabinets and that the pest company would be contacting us. So I don't have a lot of detail on the situation yet. I'll just be sure to take off work and be there and move her. Thank you again!

I have my house sprayed a few times a year for scorpions. It is more a stream so doesn't go into the air. I change all food and water after they go, but it might not be as bad as you think.

Call the pest company and ask. Speak to someone who knows what they are spraying. They have to be licensed so they should be able to give you answers.

I think if your landlord has hired professional pest control experts, then you do not need to worry as they have relevant knowledge and experience and know the right type of chemicals that are to be used to kick of bugs and other pest infestations without damaging any other thing or people. Professional exterminators in CT are best at what they do and provides excellent services.

It sounds like they are bombing, as stated above, which is using an airborne fog, mist, or fumigant, which will permeate and contaminate everything.
I'd make arrangements to have the chameleon, cage, and feeders stay at a friends house for 2-3 days, during and after spraying. Do wipe down your counters, sinks, and wash your bedding, for your safety, too. A lot depends on the chemicals they use, many are not toxic in most circumstances, to invertebrates, but better to take precautions and be overly cautious.
What are they spraying for? If you don't have a specific problem, where you are and it's just routine, argue that you have sensitivities and allergies to chemicals and will allow baiting only. You should have some options. If you do have pest, they may have to spray in order to effectively solve the problem.

My roof has sprung a leak.
Don't you 'member I told you about it

Landlord, landlord,

It's a wonder you don't fall down.

Ten Bucks you say I owe you?
Ten Bucks you say is due?
Well, that's Ten Bucks more'n I'l pay you
Till you fix this house up new.

What? You gonna get eviction orders?
You gonna cut off my heat?
You gonna take my furniture and
Throw it in the street?

Um-huh! You talking high and mighty.
Talk on-till you get through.
You ain't gonna be able to say a word
If I land my fist on you.

Police! Police!
Come and get this man!
He's trying to ruin the government
And overturn the land!

Copper's whistle!
Patrol bell!
Arrest.
Precinct Station.
Iron cell.

I know this is an old thread... but this is terrifying!! Scorpions in your house? for real??

I live in south central Texas so there are a lot of scorpions here. Scorpions aren't the monsters they are made out to be in the movies. They sting you and it hurts like the dickens but there are very few truly dangerous scorpions. It is worse than a bee or wasp sting and lasts longer but comparable. My scorpion population has decreased dramatically since I have chickens free ranging all around my house. The scorpions come in the house in the heat, the cold and the rain. I've been stung once or twice. I was sloppy moving a log. I also have big tarantulas here. Those really creep me out although I've only found a couple. Thank you chickens for guarding my house!

Sometimes I am glad it snows here in the winter!! :D

Kaptial That is the only deadly Scorp in America, I am not sure if they are in Texas? I think they are in Cali, they are 100% most defiantly where I grew up though in Phoenix. That is the Arizona Bark Scorpion and it will kill you, if stung and not treated.

We got it pretty bad in AZ, We got Diamondbacks, Coral Snakes, Gila Monsters, Recluses, Widows, those scorps, its bad man got to watch where you walk.

I don't think that is deadly unless you are allergic to them, are they?

We have bark scorpions but not a really venomous one like that little darling.
