Help!

Hi!

You've been given great advice. I wanted to add that, in my experience, for all they are fragile, chameleons are also resilient. Once you get everything set up I'm sure your baby will thrive.

Oh thank god! I'm still incredibly worried, but my boyfriend and I are going to the pet store tonight to hopefully find housing, get a new bulb, the supplements you both suggested, and some more crickets. We have mealworms in the fridge, but, she doesn't seem to enjoy them, they're seldom eaten.

Yeah she looks better this morning, but she's sleeping, so I can't tell if she's still trembling or not. It was really noticeable when she walked.

Yay!

We went to a local pet store, got a 24x24x48 open air screen enclosure, the reccomended supplements, a big piece of wood for her, and some crickets. Will keep you updated!

ok seeing that you got the bigger cage(which is fine) you might want to try cup feeding so you can keep track of the crickets. Alot of times if you throw some in they tend to hide so that might be the only concern that you think they have gotten eaten and they have not. Make sure to add lots of plants, vines, and branches. You can use live plants which will help with the humidity in the cage. Ficus, pothos, sheffelera, and hibiscus are some of the most popular cham safe plants. Veilds can eat plants so you always have to be careful of what you put in the cage that it is not toxic to your chameleon. So glad you are trying to give your little one the very best!

So just put them in like, a cup we don't use with the supplements on them? And that'll be good?
Also, thank you again for all your help! I've only had Pascal a month, but I already love her. I want to help her anyway I can.

well you dust them first in a bag or another cup. Swish them around in the calcium. Don't coat them so they are white, just dust them lightly. Get a cup that is not see through, and not too deep, but deep enough so the crickets cannot jump out. You can always pull of the crickets back legs so they cannot jum(not a fan of this). You don't want a see through cup as you do not want your chameleon shooting its tongue at the outside of the cup. Cup feeding is just an option. What I did when my guy was a baby was to let a bout 5 crickets loose up the side of the screen. He would usually pick them off one by one and then I would add 5 more or so. I had the luxury of sitting there and observing this, as I know is not ideal for everyone when you work. Like I said you just want to make sure that when you put 15 crickets in that 14 of them are not hiding in the plants. You definitely do not want loose crickets roaming the cage at night as they may take a nip out of your little baby! He she doing any better in the new cage? Does she not have the spurs, so you are sure she is a female.?

Yeah, I don't think I could tear legs off crickets. I made a stand for the cage, will post photos when it's finished. I don't have much plant and vine wise, yet. I'm going to work on that as a get a more steady income.
Do you know if African violets are okay to be in with a cham?

My boyfriend and I are relatively new to owning a chameleon. We have had her for about a month, and I am worried about her health. She is currently shedding, but she is also sleeping quite literally all day, eating little to none, and trembling. I"m not sure if this is just how juvenile veiled chameleons act whilst shedding, or if I'm doing something wrong. :(
Please help! Thank you so much
i cant help cause im in the same boat litterally!!!!! i think my boy is slipping away though.... he cant really climb and hes shaking like an old man when he tries>. ive had to help him get from A to B and when i dont hes hanging from the position i left him in but downward>>>>he is in a really big exoterra thing and has calcium and plenty of food and i ean i follow the chameleon guideliones so i dont understand what could be wrong>>>he has pooped in almost a week too>>please help if you know

You mention that your chameleon is trembling.....it might be that she is developing MBD but it's hard to tell unless there are physical signs of it showing.

Amber...you can tear the legs off the crickets...it's just sort of gross. If I can do it, you can do it.

Here's how I managed it: put them in a zippy bag (not some flimsy bag, you want thick plastic). With one hand, grab a cricket with your thumb and forefinger. With the other hand, pinch one back leg right at the body (yuck!). That leg will come off. You do not have to pull. You'll be amazed at how little this seems to bother the cricket.

Note: when done, either empty the bag of legs or get a new bag because, I have to tell you, when you go to fix feeders again the presence of LEGS is even ickier than squeezing them off.

Mm but you can fry em' up and make a nice crunchy on the go snack.. I like to add a little sprinkle of BBQ rub. But I also have to floss all the little cricket leg hairs out of my teeth.
