Here we go. Round deaux.

So, a little background for me and then the actual name...

I played many instruments as well as sang so was in some bands over the years. I was also a sound engineer as well. Although I was in some cover bands at times, I generally was in groups that wrote our own stuff, but every night we would still do a cover or two just to keep it fun. We would pick some things that didn't necessarily always fit our style which was kind of 80's hair metal mixed in a blender with Southern Blues/Rock and Metal. (Kinda Alice In Chains meets Stone Temple Pilots Meets Days of the New with some Old School Van Halen, as well as the Beatles and some... oh nevermind...)We would do some reggae, dance, pop, whatever, but would put a metal twist on it and tie it into a set just to see what would happen. We always seemed to get the approval of the crowd! One of my favorite bands was Extreme. We decided to try this one out one night (back when I still had a voice ) and the response was amazing!!! (I know the video is corny, but it's supposed to be...)

After the first night we performed it there was no going back! We would always get requests for it and when we were about to perform the song I would always ask if the audience was ready for some "Deca-Dancin" and the name kinda stuck from there!

So, there it is, I am Decadancin... and although I do not "dance" very often, there may just be some decadence :D :sneaky:!

So.....where is the video of your band doing this?

I don't know if they had video back then... Perhaps a stick figure drawing would be available . Just kiddin', but I don't think there is anything out there :(. I have seen some clips on YouTube from some of my friends' bands, but not many.

@JacksJill , why would you want them to stop??? I had so much fun then :D. No Bell bottoms, My hair was longer then any of the girls I hung out with, The music (no disco) was great (as long as you searched past the garbage and grunge), the flashbacks are what get me through Lady Ga Ga and Black Eyed Peas :coffee:. (Just Kidding, I appreciate almost all music and can do classical, do-wop, rock and roll, southern rock, blues, jazz, you name it.)

By the way, there is a video contest coming up very soon here on the forums, but I don't think that is the type we are talking about ;). (Can't wait for this to happen!!!)

@Peachypink , I may have some pics of my high school marching band getting "arrested" at the Columbus Day Parade in New York City, would this count??? o_O

Those were great times I will admit. I ran thru the cobble stone streets of Philadelphia in high heel pumps many a night. I just find the smell of Aqua Net a little distracting.
I'm just hoping no one walks by my desk while I'm watching hair band videos.

Ah hairspray... such amazing things could be done :). What was it, Stiff Stuff? I think that was more like aerosol concrete .

Don't worry, even though they wont admit it, they all own Slippery When Wet . (And probably Open Up and Say Ahhhh...)

Have you all hammered out the rules for the video contest? When do we get to know?

Not Yet, but we are close! @Brad has a plan :cautious:. I don't want to steal the thunder from this post, but we will have an announcement soon (y).

I would like to see this as a very successful thing, but there have been challenges getting enough entries in the past. With todays technology available, it should be much better!

HI @Angelwolf thanks for inviting me in to the discussion! I gained user name as a Nursing instructor. I am a hairy guy, 9ne of my students mentioned that I was like a gorilla. But I am blond! Then one of my students laughed and said that I was a "Vanilla Gorilla"! The name stuck and I love it. I am originally from South Africa! Yup I grew up with all kinds of chameleons around me! Bread my first when I went off to college in the Cape area! Though it was illegal to keep them as pets I was crazy about the Cape Dwarf chameleon so I decided to breed them, raise them a little till they are stronger and let them go back in to the wild! Was a blast!

Vanilla gorillas are a rare breed. I believe they are critically endangered.

Ooh, how I do love a story thread. In the case of my user name, it doesn't have too much meaning, (I will never be able to live up to Remkon ) but rather is a play on words. I currently am studying a couple languages, one of them being Korean. One day I learned the Korean word for coffee: 커피 which is romanized as keo-pi (because there's no "f" sound in Korean if you were curious). I thought hey... that sounds like "copy", so I swapped it into the saying "copy cat", which works because I like coffee and cats. The end :coffee:
