This is my first Cham although I have had tons of reptiles, I'm open to any help about caging that would be great ! some information about the setup, pathos and ficus are the live plants(more on the way there just a little to small he would crush them), humidity ranges from 50%-80% I mist 3 times a day, the basking spot is around 88-92 F, rest of cage is about 70's , night time temp drops to around 58-62 F.

Do any of your chameleons live to hunt instead of be hand fed? My panther boba loves hunting for his own food.

My chameleon likes to hunt but sometimes he gets too excited and tries to take things right out of my hand. I'll hand feed him some worms just so I can see the accuracy of his tongue for myself (paranoid) but for the most part I just put the bugs in his cage or wherever he is and let him get them himself. Plus I just CANT hold a Dubai or an island roach feels to err gross. But I'm trying lol.

I was like that with super worms I was convinced they would bite my finger off , Now don't care . I was feeding Frances put the cup on the enclosed the cup fell off and went right down my shirt . I was like oh well all my baby's are Hungry they will fall out lol .

I once had a gold bar clown fish that would come and rub herself against me for attention. I would cup my hand and she would nestle herself in my hand while I rubbed her with my thumb. When I added new corrals or rocks to the aquarium I had to wait for her to show me where she wanted it! If I did not move it for her, she would! So, I would put the item in the aquarium and look at her trying to figure out what she wanted. She would go bump against the item and then swim to the spot where she wanted the item. She would then turn towards me while waiting in the spot where she wanted the item moved and just stare at me till I move it! I once added in a rather large rock with a nice corral to the aquarium. It was easily 5 times her weight. I was in a hurry an had to quickly leave to go do something. Because I was in a hurry I did not pay her any atention as she showed disapproval for my location I picked! I left the room as she frantically swam around in frustration at me leaving! A couple of hours later when I came back the rock was where she wanted it! She had gashes all over her forehead aquired by her moving the rock to where it BELONGED!!! I never did that again. Every time, after that day, when I added something to the aquarium I made sure the Queen was happy!

Haha that's so awesome. Matt i honestly think you've got the magic touch. All your pets seem to adore you. If I tell my dad this he might never leave those fishes side haha. we're big animal lovers in this family, I'm talking Nat/GEO/Wild, all the animal documentaries on Netflix have been watched animal lovers haha.

I would suggest you start a new thread just for you, you'll get more answers that way.

What kind of Cham is it? If it a juvenile veiled then you basking spot is a bit high and should be 85. And if it's a juvenile panther it should be around 82-85. After 9 months it goes up to 90-95 for veiled and 85-90 for a panther.

But seriously, start you own thread and include you keeping info and pictures of the entire enclosure and we can help you out better.

Oh yea I was like that with supers for a bit too until one day they all spilled on my floor. Haha. No I feel nothing. (Cue evil laugh)

Hi have read all of this and i think have taken all the correct advice. My chameleon is not sociable. my interaction with him has been minimal as he is obviously stressed when i approach cage. i have had to take him out once to clean and got bitten. He is calming a little but wont hand feed. Hes been handled by me about twice in 8 months. However just recently if i leave cage door open he will come out. every time. i thought this was a good thing so its upsetting to read that this may be because of cage stress. All parameters and hydration good. i free range food and cup feed worms. Panther chameleon about 8 months old in a 2x2x4 mesh enclosure. plenty of cover 2 pothos and one ficus plant and lots of branches and vines. why would he want to get out so badly?

He may only be trying to explore.

I'm sorry if I offended any1 on this forum but just feel like I needed to say it. I'm having issues with my personal life and have been agressive. Especially with my depression and anxiety.
Same here but that's where I have to try my hardest to gain control of my anxiety and bipolar depression I get your probably on the defensive because when in a funk you think all is out for you hope all gets better for you and good luck with your baby

Ah, another instant expert of 7 days.

Try actually reading what I wrote.

Note the part that discussed the stress being an internal, unseen event. Sometimes you don't see the signs of stress until you have a sick chameleon. But then you won't see it then, because you will blame its demise on ill health not realizing that its ill health is a direct consequence of stress.

Note also where I described the nature of the animal, how they don't crave attention.

Not to get off topic here but you said something that made me chuckle. The look don't touch fish aquarium thing. My dad hand feeds his fish every day and his eel too. He has one fish that follows his hand around if it's in the tank because he thinks there is food in it. I tell him all the time his hands are dirty but w.e. Not trying to pick a fight I just thought it was funny this was brought up because we were just talking about it.
I had a puffer fish who would recognize us when we came into the room, and actually came over to us to be pet. He would swim right up to our fingers, swing his butt around, and wait for his scratchin's.

Woah what?! I've clearly been underestimating fish and need to head back to the bat cave for something lol. I just saw the other day my dads oscars "fighting" they grabbed on to each other's mouths and went crazy. Obviously I had a panic attack, but thankfully there is a forum for everything and a nice oscar one told me they were trying to mate. Haha. The things you miss from not living under water I guess haha.
