He's Missing!!!

Pop those squeirls w a .22 lol that should make sure hes safe. The hawk would be the worst tho to watch out for. They have amazing eye sight and would probly see him if hes moving alot.

Maybe get a search party from your neighborhood during the night? And like everyone is saying look around at night, maybe at the top of trees in the morning when he is basking(if he is,idk his usual routine).

I've looked in that tree for so long that I'm beginning to question if he really is up there. How much does heat vision goggles cost. lol. Maybe I can use those at night.

Maybe you can rent some? Or you could get like a heat sensor thing or w/e and scan the tree, idk im just tryin to make some suggestions:confused:

lol do you hav a police buddy? I know police have nice cool night vision and heat tracking cameras. This town near me in IL had them mounted on their Ford Expeditions to scan parks at night. Maybe if your town has them you could convince an officer to swing by one night?

Man...guy, Im really sorry to hear about your situation. I wish you the best of luck finding him, and as everyone has said so far, don't give up, cause when you give up, it could take just that lil bit of extra to find the lil guy. Good luck

Good idea. My uncle is a police sergeant. Maybe he can hook me up.

Would heat vision optics even work on a cold blooded reptile. Its body temp would be close to the ambient temp, so it may not be detectable.

I agree with some of the other posts and get the flashlight out at night.
You may want to alert your neighbors to help and kids love looking for missing animals.
I lost a panther chameleon last spring and was found exactly one mile from my house,2 months later! In great shape bythe way!
Like I said enlist help,Lots of eyes looking is better than two.
Good luck,I feel for ya!

i 2nd that. The only time heat goggles might even detect him would be in the afternoon after the heat of the sun is gone and he is still carrying some heat in him from basking.

One Mile! That is insane. Was he looking for a mate? I alerted my neighbors. But I'm beginning to think that a Hawk got him. They have been flying around my block the last couple of days. I even saw one with a rat in his claws. The biggest problem is the giant tree in my backyard. I spend at least two hours a day looking up there. The problem is that the color of the leaves are the same color of my cham during the day . I might have to wait until the leaves change color close to fall. That will help out.

I already started to fix the out door cage. I am replacing the netting with a stronger one that will not rip. I will also seal the bottom so that there is no chance of escapes. I'm really disappointed. I was doing so good with my cham and he was very healthy, especially for my first cham.... Then I lose him to a simple mistake in my cage design. I might get a panther in the next couple of weeks and start over. But I'll still be looking for my veiled. At least a panther will be easier to find.

Have you tried a Q-Beam?
The super flashlights.
You can buy one at WalMart for under 20.00$
All you would need is 1,000,000 candle watt.
That should reach the top of almost any tree and light up about a 10' radius.
I have a couple of them, so I would lend one if you were closer.:D
They die after about 30 minutes of use, but they can be recharged.

-Good luck

Did the rat have a really curly tail? Sorry, couldn't help myself. I really doubt a hawk got him. Chams are the way they are just for this reason. You may not get him back, but I bet he's out there. Good luck and I hope you find him.

If you're pretty sure he's in the tree, you may want to call a tree service. Those guys that cut trees climb super high all the time and have the training to do it. I've seen them "topping" trees before and they're kinda insane with how high they go. Might cost you some money.

A tree service sounds good. I might do that if I spot him up there. That tree is pretty high and I don't want to risk the climb.

Oh man I feel for you. Never experienced this but I am building my outdoor enclosure so I will be sure to take extra precaution. If you were closer I would offer to come over with my climbing gear and climb up there for you. I love climbing trees. I would take the CSI approach... Like someone said... look at it from the chameleons view. When you took him out and sat him down which way did he tend to move for? They are fairly predicatable... So I would start by sitting and looking at the most likely place he would go after escape... and then try to do your best to think like a chameleon. Good Luck.
