He's Missing!!!

Also don't focus too much on that tree; during the day he might be hiding somewhere closer to the ground. He might be smart enough to stay pretty low with all those hawks flying around.

I hope you find him!

Man I feel for you. did you find him? I had my veiled out front sunning with my tortoises. I was sitting there so I figured it would be to leave them all in the playyard ( child fencing ) with a couple of hibiscus. He was sitting in the hibiscus so I went inside for a few minutes, came back and he's gone. I also live on a wooded property but they were all sitting on the lawn with the closest tree 10 feet away. I spent most of the day searching that ( tall ) pine tree with no luck and then some of the other trees with no luck. I'll try the flashlight tonite. Problem is he is only about 7-8 inches STV. He was also my first and doing so well ( took him to the vet for a checkup on Monday ). I feel for you. Hope we both find 'em.

Did you try putting individual feeding cups in the trees around your house with a few feeders in them. I would try that. Like nico said it is still hard to find a panther. It took me 2 days to find my very peachy female and she was in a tree with barely any leaves on it. Keep searching you will find him!!!!

Did he ever show up???

Funny right after I posted here a couple weeks back... the next day my female climbed down from her ficus she was sunning on in my backyard while I was working and dissapeared. Took us an hour of searching the yard but then I thought... I looked for the biggest tree... did a straight line from where she was to where it is... and I found here right in the path... up against the fence trying to get into the nieghbors yard to climb the huge tree she dreams about.

i lost mine to while i was cleaning his cage. i put him in the shrub and when i was done it looked at the plant and no chameleon. i then looked at the brick wall and up the wall was the little rat. it only took about five minutes to find him, but a couple of weeks would have me freaked. how does such a slow moving chameleon get away, but i geuess it happens...

Mine is a veiled, not a panther. I'm waiting for it to get dark and I will try the flashlight trick. Problem is the trees that were closest to where he was ( and in which I suspect he is ) are tall. As for the feeding cups, what is going to keep the crickets from escaping? I'm also goign to leave my front door light on in the hopes that he will be attracted to the bugs or heat since it is pretty cool here at nite still.

I still haven't found him. Hopefully he has established some territory and won't be moving farther away from my search area. I go out there for at least one hour a day. I'll keep searching until winter. By that time he is sure to become a popsicle.

We are routing for you Marc. Jelton pinch the back legs off the crickets and put them in a dixie cup. If you cant wedge them between branches get a twist tie to tie them to one. Place in all the trees and shrubs around you and hopefully he will come to eat. When I lost mine I had about 25 of them all over the place. Sad to say though she was further away then I expected. About 70 yards away from her cage across a gravel parking lot and up a huge tree. When I finally spotted her 2 days later she was eating some kind of bugs from the tree hahahaah. I was so relieved. I really am routing for you guys.

Thanks I will try that but how do you know its not something else eating the crickets? BTW its dark now and cool enough that I needed a light jacket so I hope he makes it through the nite.

Well you dont really but if they are gone out of only one cup then that would be a good sign that it could be him. He should make it they are tough kritters.

What kinda tree is it? or did I read over this... Never mind, I didn't realize the length of this thread... :D

Ok so I felt bad to amputate legs from the crickets but i put a few superworms in a tupperware under the tree that i suspect is the hideout. lets see what happens in the morning.

Good luck guys! I hate to think about my cham wondering off. There are so many huge crows and hawks flaying around by my place. I really do hope you find your little friends!

On a good note, as I was heading out the door I found one of my young kingsnakes crawling out of a gift bag that a friend dropped off earlier. I had written him off as lost for good a month ago! I know someone's gonna say it, so I'll preempt by saying these things dont usually happen to me. The snake was adopted with a cage who's lid was defective ( found out after the fact) and today's incident was a careless stupid stupid error.

My neighborhood had a lost boa running lose a couple of years ago. The cats started to disappear over the weeks. Then they found it underneath a house with a full belly.

Cherry picker..rent a cherry picker and use at it night with a powerful flashlight. Worked for me years ago when one of these "slow" animals ditched his custom sunning cage with all the trimmings for a plain old tree. Now after you spot him getting him out is your problem....

Good luck.

Cherry picker would be too much at this point plus I dont have much room to maneuvar in that area. One of the superworms was eaten though I dont know by whom I am hoping it was the chameleon. It rained through the nite until an hour ago so I'm hoping he'll be sunning himself and I can catch him during my lunch break. If not, tonite i will put out a bunch of dixie cups with food in it.

He's definately not in the cage because he was out when he escaped. I had him basking on a hibiscus on the lawn stupidly while I was working in front. Th escape happened when I stepped inside. I spent a few hours earlier today and after nightfall with a flashlight...no luck. There are some creatures living in the underbrush and ivy though. I kept hearing ruslting but couldnt catch them in the light even right behind me. I'm curious what would come up in a live trap. It was suggested that I set up a mister on the hose next to the hibiscus and maybe he will come for the water but I'll have to wait for it to be hot and dry...hopefully over the weekend. I did make some fliers and started giving them to the neighbors who abut the property on the side and back and ahve kids....definately got some wierdo stares. if they only knew...
