The biggest con is that they grow at lightning speeds. So, if you are trying to feed a small chameleon hornworms of appropriate size, you really have a small window to work with.
Silkworms are a better alternative for smaller chameleons as they stay a smaller size for a much longer time. If you blink long enough, the hornworms are the size of your finger.

I just started feeding mine with medium size hornworms. They don't seem big, but here's a pic. He absolutely loved them! View attachment 166287
I started with the small but they grow very fast. You can slow down their growth keeping them in the refrigerator. Make sure air can get into the vented bottom. Put them in a day and then take them out a day .Do this until all are gone
