He is a veiled chameleon , male , 1 year 10 month old roughly .
he gets handled about 4 times a week
i feed him locusts , crickets , wax worms and meal worms dont realy have a schedule just when he takes them , somtime he will take 10 but then other times he will only take 2 . i gut load them with fruit and veg and the cricket feed you can buy .
i supplement his feed with repti calcium and repivite with D3 3 times a week and he has liquid calcium in his water which he gets all the time .
i mist him with a bottle sprayer which he drinks directly from , he has a waterfall , a fogger and an automatic sprayer in his tank .
his droppings are brown and white with the odd bit of yellow .
His droppings are currently away getting tested for parasites .

He has a screen cage 32x32x72 cm
he has exo terra uvb and just a standard heat lamp they both get turned off at night as the room they are in is always warm .
the temperature of the basking spot is about 30c and at the bottom of the cage 20 c .
i measure them with just a thermometer i bought from a hardware store .
The humidity is normally about 70%
I measure that with an exo terra hydrometer ( but ive ordered an electronic one)
I have some live plants and some false the live ones are dracena plant and a spineless yucca.
The cage is about a meter and a half off the floor , not near any air vents or high traffic areas
I am in the scottish borders in the UK

Hey Lewis, that is a lot of calcium and multivite. You're only supposed to supplement him with those twice a month each. What you need to be giving him 5x a week is the calcium with no d3. Are you using that at all? He might be having effects of being over supplemented with calcium and multivites and the lack of d3 may have caused the MBD.

Usually our UVB bulbs need to be changed out every 6-9 months, also. They get weaker and weaker until they don't output any UV rays. This and calcium + d3 are important when trying to prevent MBD.

no ive not been using that, yeah i know about he changing of the uvb bulbs

Well I am not sure why your chameleon got MBD. Normally it is lack of calcium supplementation and no uvb. Seems like you are doing everything right. It is unusual for a chameleon to get MBD that has been given the care you say. Where are you getting his fecal tested? I bring mine in and my vet gives me results on the spot. I am not sure what to tell you, if you have been supplementing him with calcium like you say. What did the vet say when he saw him for the prolapse? Nothing of the MBD?

No the vet didnt mention anything about MBD

I would seek a different vet then! I cannot imagine a vet(if they know chameleons ) not diagnosing that. That makes no sense to me. I am sure you have seen the casques on Veilds on here....by 2 years of age they should be standing straight up and tall. Yours is slanting back and his front legs are all curvy. Those are both signs of MBD. I would start looking for a new vet asap!! His spine almost looks crooked also.

Yes, not to sound harsh but really you chameleon has a clear case of it and for a vet not to recognize it...I don't know. A vet can give him some calcium injections. Natural sunlight is always great of course if possible. Ask the vet what supplementation they suggest. If you go into the health section under the green forums tab above you will see a whole thing written on MBD so you can get an education on it for you and your chameleon. Good luck to you!

how long has it been since he has eaten? Who advised you to give him crushed fruit?? Sometimes they cannot shoot their tongue when they have MBD.

he has not used his tongue since his prolapse about a week ago , the vet said it was fine to give him fruit

While offering him fruit isn't terrible, chams are primarily insectivores and they require properly gutloaded/dusted live insects every day. If he really wants the fruit, try smearing some on his insects when you hand feed him.

Ok, just trying to figure this out. In the help form you filled out you said he would eat between 10 and 2 insects a day depending on his hunger. Now you are saying he is not eating and you are syringe feeding fruit. Did he eat live insects up until the prolapse a week ago, not at all or stopped recently? These details are very important.
